What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

Irene, let us know if the author believes there is a link between sugar intake and developing diabetes. There is conflicting opinion on that. I personally think yes, but some other sources say no...

Can't imagine the cold, we complain when it's 40%, you should hear what goes on, so spoiled in L.A. stay warm.

I know, when I lived in NW Florida it got cold for a few months every winter, with actual freezing temps in January and February. I used to gripe if I had to put on "real" shoes as I basically wore sandals most of the time.

Jas yes, from my experience the Doc told me my numbers were high and I was pre-diabetic..I flipped out, started reading ingredients and really watched sugar intake. My numbers went down in 3 weeks, swelling down and that's what started me on this trip....will keep you posted, but you may want to take book out for yourself and hubby....knowledge never hurts....

Right, I have cut back on our sugar intake other than the banana bread I made last week...it was the holidays, after all. Hubby is supposed to be making a followup appointment with a doctor to check the blood sugar and also blood pressure. Hopefully he will not procrastinate.
I suspect a link between high fructose corn syrup but it could just be the sugar. My sister and brother in law both developed diabetes and they drank sodas all day every day. After finding out they had diabetes and getting a couple of unpleasant related conditions, they went off sodas and both of them are now diabetes free. My BIL's diet was not great but my sister ate quite healthy except for the sodas. After going off of them she lost a LOT of weight and was so delighted with that that she was motivated to go vegan. Now she says she feels better than when she was 20 years younger.
And.... (making sure I get an incorrect number of those things in there,) today I venture out into the frozen tundra to stock up on supplies for the next week of below freezing temperatures. I don't know how y'all get out there and shop in this. I admire your fortitude more than I can properly express. Especially you guys doing gas stations.
I also have to stock up our soda machine. Damn it. We have one in the alley next to our garage and it does a brisk business, let me tell you. Even in the winter.
"Brisk" business, LOL. You are so punny!

Yes, it's a lovely 14 degrees here, wind chill makes it feel like 0. I will be going out in it today for shops because the high is 22, so if I leave around 1:30 I can be back by 4:30 when it gets cold again. The alternative is to go another day this week when the temps are going to drop even more. The low tonight is -2 and that's the actual temp, not including wind chill, and tomorrow the high is 7 I think...
You are like me, you time it when it's the warmest... lol. I have to get cracking though, because stocking up the soda machine involves it's own shopping trip, and it's a big one. I should gas up the cars too. My wife asked me if I was going to be doing any gas stations! Hahahahaha

The author (expert) says yes, sugar causes, diabetics, heart problems, high blood pressure all diseases even cancer, but only processed sugar...lot of info., I recommend you pick it up at the library, very involved.

Irene, does that author mention the bleaching process?

Anyway, I am completing projects. If all goes well, there is a respite for a flurry of shops and merch tasks. After that, I can focus on home tasks. Yawn.

I well know about the cold and the storms. I hope that all of you are safe wherever you are.

Going to go grocery shopping and also practice on the piano. I love the piano, but go through spurts. One year, I practiced like, 4 hours a day!! And mastered a Tarantella and an arrangement of Hungary, and got pretty good with Bumble Boogie! Then I won't do anything major with it for a year or two!! But this year, I'm going to practice more on it. Right now, I'm working on the theme from Exodus, and I also want to master a simplified arrangement of Claire de Lune.

PS.....as an aside, oftentimes when I look at the title of this thread, I inadvertently start humming Streisand: "What are you doing ... the rest of your life?"

Pay bills (I fear the credit card bill after Christmas!), hammer out some shop dates, work on my VA page so I can start doing some of that in addition to shopping.
Planned on an easy day, but a big job was just assigned, so, working at 11.00, ho hum retirement, where are you????

My dishwasher won't run (frozen water pipe) so I'm catching up on a bunch of dishes. Hopefully there is no crack in it. Even if there is it's not a huge fix unless you don't catch it in time.
Sending thank you notes; doing laundry; trading shops with another shopper (with agreement of the MSC). Finally, a very nice nap. Tomorrow, once more into the fray.... er the city... for a ton of garages and a nice fast casual lunch shop right across the street from one garage. Then on to day routes of shops Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, including 2 overnight hotel shops in the city that will make it so easy to do a lot more garages per day.

I decided to start taking down the Christmas decorations a couple of days early. Usually I wait until Epiphany (celebrated on January 7th this year), but it's too stinkin' cold to go outside.

My hope is that Hubby will see my start and join me in the job after dinner tonight.

Getting through work with a head cold, going home and eating soup, early bedtime today.
Kathy, I thought it always fell on the same date because it is the 12th day of Christmas.

While I would be content to leave decorations up through dreary month of January, tomorrow I am starting on the indoor stuff. From what I see on weather.com, Sunday there is a one or two hour window before the rain and ice where temps will reach a balmy 33 or 34. Hopefully I can get the outdoor decorations put away during that window. There is a drawback to having ornaments on an outdoor tree. It is nigh impossible to handle those small hooks with gloved handssad smiley

I promise my hubby that after the First Friday at my house today I would take the stuff down have begin to do so. By tomorrow night the tree will be back in the office. We had a wonderful time
The actual Epiphany IS the last of the 12 days, but the Catholic church moved the celebration to the following Sunday some time back. However, Mardi Gras season still starts on the 13th day :-)

I'm not Catholic. I obviously like the directions up as long as possible and nobody questions it if I use the 12 days of Christmas excuse, LOL!

I took down the decorations off of the fireplace 2 days ago, but we still have our small 4 1/2' tree up. We usually leave it up till the 7th or 8th of January, and it stays alive pretty well, because we get it closer to Christmas...so it's usually good for 3-4 weeks. It still has a nice pine smell to it, too! But...all good things must come to an end, so I may start on it tomorrow while hubby's out of town, and then let him take the tree out when he gets home. At least those are my intentions....but we all know what happens to our intentions!!! ha ha!
Celebrating! Our Green Card was approved today after years of waiting. Thought of sharing the good news with my friends here!!

I think you could do the same with your decorations as you do with your directions, LOL.

I would have liked better directions on the packaging for putting up window cling insulation...it would have been nice to know beforehand that they needed to go up in the fall instead of when it was 3 degrees outside, LOL. That shrinkwrap @#$%& just doesn't work when it's that cold!!!!
