What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

My Father was a heavy smoker, three packs of Lucky strikes daily, they didn't know then the damage and didn't have open heart surgery, so he passed at 59 (i was 22), what a loss. My sister smoked but quit at around 50yrs. Back then, that was the thing to do. I hope he cuts down and finally gives it up. at least for you. This may just scare him enough....today I'm waiting for the cable guy 1 to 5, T.V. not working, yesterday, my new cleaning crew did a fabulous job on the house...we had so much ash, dust and debris from the fires. They quoted me 250.00/yikes. I said I just can't do that, and the husband said, "this will be our Christmas gift to you", and did it for 100.00. I will definitely put out the word in my complex, they are commercial, do widows and carpets, so hopefully, I can get work for them. I don't want to cook.... happy at how great house looks.

I worked very hard yesterday trying to finish 11 phone shops, Christmas shopping for my daughter while she was at school, getting eyebrows done, coming home to cooking and I can go on and on. Finally, sat down with tea and Fuller House episodes. Woke up today with a bad migraine, vomited (ugh...) and to make myself feel better, I was reading these posts. And now I am just welling up reading all these posts from Irene and JASFLAMT. I will Skype mom tomorrow. Living on different continents sucks at this time of the year and the weather in Chicago is making me miserable. Well, I hope the little potluck will cheer me up today!
Some authors teach about Metabolic Syndrome and Syndrome X. Does this sound like your situation? Fortunately, there are specific hints and tricks for reversing pre-diabetes. Some are conveniently located in books written by authors who know from nutrition, lifestyle, etc. These are affordable and easy for most people to do. These might be useful even if no one has mentioned 'pre-diabetes'. About quitting: That is soooooooooooooooooo stressful for people who are not ready as well as for some people who are ready to quit. When something stressful happens, the addict might panic (and this is different from a panic attack). The addict may experience events as stressful which other people do not even notice. Then, the drug of choice or some other thing is chosen. Is quitting the highest priority for a guy with clear lungs? Would something else be beneficial in his life? In his own perspective: does it feel like a weight is on his chest when people pressure him in any subtle or overt way to quit? Also in his perspective: Does he just need to express something or make a change? But here is the best news of all. You are in charge of nutrition. You know what is good for his lungs and other tissues. Hint, hint. smiling smiley

The only person who has pressured him to quit is his doctor, nurse, and his mother and kids have at times given him a hard time about it. We have been happily married for over 18 years. I know better than to nag or pressure, even though I was a control freak in one of my previous lives (as a small business owner). And yes, I can control the other things like diet more easily.
Mum, I hope you feel better soon. Migraines are just awful.

Irene, happy about the clean house, what a wonderful way to spend the holidays and what a wonderful cleaning crew to give you that discount.

I just got back from doing some shops and am going to cook dinner and have a glass of wine. Cheers to all!
No one can tell another to stop smoking, I get it....sounds good on paper, but in reality, not so much.....

My day just got better, while waiting for the cable man since noon, my daughter called, and told me great news about her life. NY Times is implementing a submission she and her associate gave while doing a lecture in their New York headquarters a few months ago. I saw the links she sent, and pictures with their staff. She also obtained a new client to consul through skype from their facility, she was happy, and I a proud Mom. Way to lift the day.....#did something right

This afternoon/evening we are going to my father-in-law's annual Christmas party. We will arrive early to visit with family because our son goes to bed early and we will be leaving way before the other guests.
Just chilling and sipping Bourbon as I see snowflakes covering the horizon. Cheers.
Above three posts may be on the wrong thread, too much bourbon?

Continued to add, today finds not much to do, making a turkey, checking out Wal-mart for a small heater, ran out of coffee, so off to Sprouts to pick up my fav/chocolate expresso. Computer and fav guilty pleasure, Candy Crush. Dreaming about a cruise. Weather is a cool 65% days/40% nights and mornings, so wearing my boots.

Making banana bread loaves all day, wrapping some presents, will be making seafood pasta for dinner. Happy holidays everyone!
I'm dressed in my prepping for snow clothes, boots, warm leggings, shawl to wrap around me as I am heading out the door to deliver little gifts of fudge to my friends and neighbors. After that delightful exercise I will run to the store for milk. Then back home to wrap my last two gifts. I will then be all done. I'll change into jammies and slippers and maybe later I'll sit on the porch wrapped in a blanket and watch the snow fall. Tomorrow I'll head out early for Christmas day with my family, who live a couple of hours away. It's something I look forward to all year.
I went to church today, awesome service. I visited a family friend and now I am in chill mode.

Me too! I made banana bread and DH would be making some homemade pizza for dinner. I am planning to watch the 1930's Christmas Carol. (Yes, third year in a row) Were planning to go to IKEA but the snow is too much. Happy holidays everyone! Have a fantastic Christmas and a prosperous New Year!!

I just made my appetizers for Christmas dinner, one of them I am really excited about. I took slices of English cucumber and put a dollop of cream cheese on each, then a slice of fire-smoked lemon-pepper salmon on top. I am going to cut up thin slivers of ripe avocado later to garnish on the top of each. I will wait to do that until the end so that the avo doesn't turn brown from oxidization. I also made 3 pounds of shrimp cocktail. My MIL is making prime rib roast stuffed with garlic cloves and basted in merlot wine. Should be a pretty nice Christmas dinner!
