What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

No. The bread, eggs, corn, avocados and spaghetti. I'm not really sure why those five.

I like having the screen projected on my dash in front of my face for a visual aid. I really love the GPS in my car because the map voice comes through my speakers. I will use my phone for a backup on the occasion that my car GPS or Garmin can't seem to find the address (sometimes new streets haven't been updated on their global maps. But, sometimes I can't hear the map voice on my phone very well and I hate looking at my phone when I am driving (not safe, anyway).

There are many things to love about a GPS that sucks about a phone:

1. My GPS screen is 2x the size of my phone screen
2. In many cars the built in USB port will not charge my phone as quickly as google maps runs it down
3. My GPS shows me exactly what lane I should be in through every intersection. In large towns with large interstates going in multiple directions this is VERY helpful.
4. My GPS shows me the current speed limit with a quick glance.
5. My GPS dings 1/4 mile before every school zone.
6. Using google maps on my phone means I either have to look at the very small screen (compared to my GPS) or I have to turn the volume up in order to hear the turns. I hate having my phone volume on at all. My phone is almost always on silent.
7. If I were to stick my phone on a suction cup on my windshield like my GPS I would not be able to glace at email subject lines, texts, or read the forum while driving. Ok seriously though, I don't drive distracted but I DO glance at my phone often while driving.
8. Traffic updates are better on google maps (and I certainly open it up if I am in a traffic jam), but I have had a much bigger issue with google maps sending me to the wrong place than I have my GPS.

1. My phone is probably larger than the GPS I used to have before I had a smartphone. At any rate I barely ever have to look at it. There are handy sets you can put your phone on now though, if you want to see the screen. Not that dumb window sticker thingie.
2. I use the cigarette lighter charger which keeps me well charged.
3. My GPS also tells me (not shows) which lane I should be in through every intersection.
4. You've got me on that one.
5. Got me on that one too, but I have noticed some handy signs on the side of the road.
6. My smart phone has two settings for volume. One for regular phone stuff and another for GPS, Videos, etc. I always have to turn my GPS sound on when I get in the car.
7. I rarely look at my phone while driving unless it rings. The voice is plenty for me.
8. Google maps used to send me to the wrong place regularly but it hasn't happened once in the last year. Also I get current traffic updates.
1. You're comparing an old, small GPS with a new, large GPS. My phone is larger than those old tiny GPSs too, but my GPS is WAY bigger than my Galaxy S7.
2. I don't, my GPS is normally plugged into my lighter. winking smiley
3. My GPS tells me and shows me, I have much better visual skills than I do listening comprehension skills, I can just glance up and tell without having to pay much attention to it.
5. Sometimes you miss the signs if you're looking for other things.
6. I hate sound coming out of my phone period. Don't care if it's phone or whatever. I don't want to open up some stupid website with embedded video that auto starts and have it blaring. It's annoying.
7. I rarely talk on the phone, mostly I interact via text or email and voice to text is a big piece of crap. It was better on my Windows phone, but then most things were.
8. Definitely agree on the traffic updates, it's why I still use google maps at times, but usually in conjunction with my GPS.

Mostly though, it's what I'm used to (as I'm sure is the case for you). I keep my GPS at the top of my windshield right next to my rearview mirror. It's second nature to me that I can glance up and know how fast I'm going, what the speed limit is, how far it is until my next turn, and where I need to be. I usually look at it at the same time I check my mirrors, which is often when driving.

BTW, most new GPSs have a more accurate speed reading than most vehicles' speedometer. Mine varies significantly. My Mini is a good 5 miles off at 70, the Juke is 2-3 off, my S2000 hits it pretty close. I like to keep my cruise control at exactly 5 over so my GPS takes the guesswork out of that.

LOL! My GPS, affectionately known as "Talkie Lady", does a good job for an old broad. There is just the one thing... Once in a while, she says "right" instead of "left". Now, I don't know if she has dyslexia, but I won't let it give me dyspepsia. I still do well with paper maps, online maps, and a general sense of direction. I have an additional gift (not quite a superpower) that helps me in this biz. If it means shopping or food, I can find it. No matter what. *proudly dons cape with "n" for 'not quite a superpower' logo and struts around cyberspace for a few minutes-- to delay returning to The Project, which The Perfectionist Thinks Should Be Finished Yesterday*)

But soon, The Raging Battleax, I mean The Perfectionist, will be silenced. Today, I accomplish the next phase of the project. At that point, all that remains is a series of tasks that should be done during quiet, snowy weekends when I want to be at home and doing little jobs around the house. At that point, I might earn a new cape that has "S" for 'Slayer Of The Perfectionist'. But that is not the purpose of my work.

I noticed something in griff's post that really explains everything. He has windows phone sickness. There is no cure. But he can find empathy and understanding in the I miss "VHS/8Tracks/landlines" support group.
Busy weekend. Saturday was 3 hours buying things for a college dorm, 3 hours at dealership picking up a much more fuel efficient car for the college gal, 2 hours driving, 2 hours unloading from car and in dorm. One hour driving to other daughter's house, birthday dinner at a restaurant (one of best T-bones I've had the pleasure of devouring), collapse in bed for a few hours. Sunday 4 hours back to dorm to finish putting up, meeting roommate and parents, a tearful goodbye, 2 hours driving, squeezed in 3 shops, home and reports, collapsed into bed. Monday - regular job for 8 hours, 1 shop after, grocery store, quick supper, 1 hour of TV if I'm lucky.
Griff, my phone is always silent, too, unless I have it on Pandora playing through my Brookstone remote speaker in my kitchen while I am cooking.

You can jest all you want but the 3 windows phones I've had have all been superior to both android phones I've had in almost every way. Granted the camera on my S7 is AMAZING but other than that, meh.

I was teasing you because my wife has the same malady. If it were up to her she would still be using her old windows phone. And when I say old I'm not kidding.
I had a Windows phone for about 18 months. Never again, but I always get a chuckle from the associates during phone shops when they ask what type of new phone I'd like and I say "Anything but Windows."

Today is my first day in about 2 weeks I am not loaded with work. I am going to mow the yard and pull some weeds, and maybe weed eat if I can get all that done before the storms move in this evening. I'm also searching for a new car. I am looking for a very cheap car to get me through the next 3 years at which point I will buy what I want and pay cash for it. It's been called to my attention that I put too many miles on a car to lease one. Hahahaha
I like what I do and that's just how the cookie crumbles.
This morning I'm taking my son to a cardiology appointment (he's fine but he was born with a genetic condition that can often cause heart problems so they want to be thorough and check him). Tonight my mom is coming over and we will watch America's Got Talent.

After the pious morning and the desultory afternoon spent counting down the days until "retirement:" (8 at last count), I saw a shop offer and swore up a blue streak and had to sit right down in my chair.

That is a well paid shop! In dollars. And reimbursements. But I must wonder: what is the report like? Is there a catch? Is my travel (~2000 RT for airfare) tax deductible? Etc. Is this a reason not to retire? Or, is it a reason to scramble under the covers!?!

All I did was change one thing in a shopper profile to reflect that I would do shops involving thus and such, even though I have zero interest in them and would rather watch moose eat trees by a river. My biggest challenge would be staying awake.

So, I will have to do a little research. Fortunately, abundant information is available here.

I went to the gym for a Zumba class. Ran errands (plus one tire shop) on the way home. After the report was done I worked on one of the many volunteer projects I seem to have gotten myself into.

Pick up my car from the dealer; get emissions test; go to Costco to order two new tires, finish laundry, quick run for groceries and wine; coach a shopper buddy as he learns to upload his first video.

Based in MD, near DC
Shopping from the Carolinas to New York
Have video cam; will travel

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
Yoga class, looking for fabric for a bedroom redo project, and attending a neighborhood trustee meeting. Hopefully a nice walk with Hubby after dinner.

Home today and it always feels strange. There's a shop going up exponentially that I usually take around now but I can't, as the wife will be at the dentist and I need to be here for contractors and dogs. I had to close my email tab because I WANT TO ACCEPT IT. I think I need help.
Once I finish coffee I will start vacuuming and dusting upstairs, fold laundry, and clean the upstairs bathroom. The bright side of having one of the bathrooms torn up is that there is only one to clean.

That's rare actually. People look at windows phones and don't like them for various reasons, but usually people who actually buy them like them better.

Hanging around to see if the three jobs I assigned were accepted as two are due today (don't you love that).
Trying to schedule a few things, as my retirement seems to last a week at a time. Other than that, nothing serious until next week, except a happy hour date tomorrow......

My Windows phone started out lovely, but after a couple of months it stopped syncing with my Outlook calendar. Since both products share the same corporate parent I could never understand why.

That is very odd considering not only do they have the same corporate parent but they actually share the same Outlook Calendar file. That's one of the things that was a huge plus. My OneNote rarely syncs with my Android (never had a problem with Windows phone) and my OneDrive automatic photo upload rarely works either. Sometimes it's hours before they sync. When I take a photo of a receipt with my phone now I just email it to myself immediately because I know it's gonna be hours if I wait on the sync.
