What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

In theory it would be great to have someone clean my house, but I would need to be here to supervise them because I am such a control freak and want things done a certain way. Because I would be hovering I might as well just do it myself (other than polishing the silver and glassware). I think the prepared appetizers is a great idea, thanks. I do normally make a charcuterie plate but I think I will just let him buy something I can heat in the oven. But will it taste good? I don't know because I don't usually buy premade foods. I could make a shrimp cocktail. I have some large 16/20 prawns in my freezer and have the stuff to make cocktail sauce. I can make him peel them for me, LOL.

Loving to cook the way I do, Ina's philosophy would not always be my first choice. However, it is sound when presented with a situation where time is of the essence. The key is combining pre-made, assembled and homemade. Since you are preparing the entree, apps and dessert are the perfect place to go with already made and items you (or your husband) can assemble in just a few minutes.

I know in Europe the preference is the cheese course near the end, but I love a cheese board for an app because it gives me flexibility. Even one really good cheese, some nuts, dried or fresh fruit, olives and bread or crackers is my idea of a good timesmiling smiley

Well we usually go through at least one bottle of wine before dinner, so cheese is perfect...we don't eat salad at the end of the meal, either, though in many parts of Europe they do.
For us Christmas day has always been brunch with afternoon appetizers and dinner around 6. After years of making a variety of appetizers from scratch, all of which needed to baked or reheated and plated, I went with the cheese board a few years ago. The great thing, it can be left out all afternoon as guests arrive at different times, there is nothing to heat up and/or plate and for some reason spreading it out actually keeps people from over indulging before dinner. That is always a larger group so I tend to go with a minimum of three cheeses up to five along with more accoutrements than needed for just four to six.

If all goes well and I don't add shops, I will visit the beloved cheese store tomorrow and get a few things for (yeah, yeah, enough already) ... for mystery shopping. There will be fresh fruit, real cheese, good bread or crackers, some raw, crunchy veggies, and the ubiquitous sfsdd. The now-famous same fibrous stuff, different day is useful. It is a water rich food alternative for people on the go or who otherwise can't quite fit in a multi-part meal into their busy worlds. If it is served cold enough, the cardboard taste disappears and you can almost believe that you are sending delectable delights down your throat. Aaaaahhhhh.... not the sound of a delicious and satisfying beverage. The sound of me, smaller thanks to sfsdd, exhaling while wearing the next size smaller pants. I made it! Mind you, there are a few sizes to go until goal. For now, I am celebrating in a good way: with real cheese, a roaring river, possibly critters, and bad jokes about assorted food choices that helped me get this far.

I am doing errands, stopping by Sprouts for my fiber fix, dropping off two bags of clothes to Goodwill, then tonight getting together with a great girl friend who is finishing school and will be an Audio Engineer for T.V., will meet for happy hour drink and appetizers. Looking forward to a fun evening and catching up....best part, no reports.....

I have spent the day getting my wife a new phone and new service, then brought it home and have been downloading her apps and getting them set up. These phones are going to have to be shot before I go through this again.
Went to the gym, picked up some stuff for mom's yard for her at Lowe's then did some work for her, weeded my herb garden, about to reset an old tablet and set it up to use with my drone, and making some homemade pizzas to freeze.

Working until 5, doing a WeGoLook after, cooking hamburger helper(gasp), but I embellish it with herbs and onions. I like the Pioneer Woman recipe for mac n cheese, so good. I tweak it a little, but I do that with any recipe I use. Except my mom's recipe for pumpkin pie, it is perfect.

Taking a break from all housework, shopping and playing. doing a wing lunch and taking a good friend with me, she is like a daughter, taking her out to lunch. Then mall for Macy's Friday Saturday sale, the at four my Kroger shop 4 blks from home, so, thinking of what I want tonight, since I'll have a huge lunch, maybe Salmon on the house, Humidity still here, home and T.V. Combo day, work and play......

You should edit that ICA violation, lol.

Gym this morning. Thinking about what to have for lunch. Then maybe cleaning of the bedroom because it's a mess and folding laundry. Short run this afternoon and maybe watch a movie tonight.

I am looking for my day. I cannot find my day. Can someone please help me find my day? It was last seen at the intersection if sunrise and the end of the morning job. It might have escaped on the back of the tow truck that hauled my defunct vehicle from the scene. Or, it might have disappeared into cyberspace during a lengthy e-mail. Did it fly away when work things were transferred from vehicle to another? In any case, eleven hours have evaporated and I don't know where to find them. I need them. Now I have rush from task to task to job to more tasks...

I've been having an email discussion with my siblings. We are in some disagreement about whether our Dad drove a tank during the invasion of the beaches of Normandy, or went ashore on foot. My brother is convinced he was in a tank, I remember my mom telling me about nightmares he had about stepping over the bodies of his fallen buddies. It's entirely possible we will never get an answer either way as they are both passed now. Other than that I am doing laundry. After my wife fired the contractors that were drying our kitchen and bathroom out, we got another one who is a specialist in water, drying, and mold removal. He says that the house is still wet. They told us it was dry. It's not subjective, they have equipment that tells them. So they flat lied to us. Now we have another 4-5 days of drying before we can start getting our kitchen put back together.
Well, then you have dodged a rather large bullet by getting rid of contractors who would have closed up still-damp spaces!

Went to the small farmers market during lunch and got some fresh veges for recipes in the near future. Going over paperwork for the weekend. I finally convinced my son to try ms and it's growing on him so I've been giving him tips. He likes being his own boss despite the hardships. We have different computers. Had two dumped cats we adopted fixed because the vet was running a special. I have to stop doing that, can't afford to save all of them.
Got word that the visiting Japanese scholar wanted to move in today so rushed home from hotel overnight, via Target (odds and ends for the furnished apartment), and he is moving in right now. This is the apartment in the basement of my home, with a fireplace and walk-out to garden. What a relief to have had such a short (3 day) vacancy. Am out of breath!

Lucky, lol, this is a thread that's about not mystery shopping, although congrats on getting work you want!
I'm going to clean the bedroom, do laundry, and go to the post office.

So last night while I was standing over the stove making the wild rice and asparagus to go with the Chilean sea bass, my mother-in-law was sitting at the counter with her boyfriend and my husband drinking wine,. She was on the phone with her sister in Phoenix, and I heard her say to Aunt Debbie, "Oh what am I doing tonight? My son is cooking me dinner." I about lost it.
Got to love lucky's enthusiasm. LOL. Jas, next time you tell your husband to cook her dinner himself. If he's going to get the credit he can do the work.
That story sounds like the stereotypical MIL on a bad sitcom.

I just had to add this. Why would someone sit in a room with other people and make a phone call? My mother does the same thing and the rudeness drives me nuts. I excuse myself to go somewhere private or don't make the call.

To his credit, he did buy the groceries and actually picked out and bought her the presents this time, which is all stuff that I usually do. I am guessing because it was his idea and he invited her up, he got the credit for cooking. When she said that, I just smiled and called out, "He is a really great chair chef, it's amazing how well he can reach the stove from his counter stool." She looked at me so she got the hint. MIL really is a wonderful person and we get along just fine, but sometimes she just say stuff that makes me wonder. Oh well. She did hug me and thank me for everything and tell me how good it was before she left. But, it's similar to the situation that makes me dislike my husband grilling steaks for small parties. I usually buy and marinade the meat, fix all the side dishes, and do all of the other preparations, and he gets the credit because he stood at the grill for 10 minutes (even if he overcooks the steaks). It's just one of those weird things.
Farmers market, McD's for their amazing iced coffee, hanging out at SB for awhile, looking into renting extra room and bath to an exchange student at our college and pool (what else)?

I'm huddled in the study ( catch all room with desks and computers) with the dogs while the guys are making a lot of noise getting the second drying session up and running. The dogs are kind of freaked out so I'm going to just sit here with them until it's over. I"m just playing Mah Jong because it's impossible to concentrate on anything else. When they are gone I will clean out the refrigerator which they moved into the hallway for us, it will be the first time it's been accessible to me for about 10 days. I'll go get some burgers or maybe some chicken and coleslaw. Hopefully after all that I'll have enough daylight left to do some yard work. It's beautiful weather here and it is driving me nuts that I can't be outside.
