What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

Watched an infrocommercial on aging and found out a remedy for dry skin ( easy and free). Lemon juice, orange juice, vanilla yogurt, honey. Equal amounts of each, 2 tbsp. each, mix, put on face for 20 minutes and wash off. Doing once a week keeps skin lubricated and gets rid of old skin .Did my running around, Macy's, had a return,
McD for my 1.00 iced tea. Lunch and pool. I get up at 7:30AM every morning and am out of house by 9ish......
Weather cooled and is beautiful, no humidity, flowers blooming, life is good.

They are not working this weekend. I am not sure that is because we still need drying time or they just don't work weekends. They should be here monday to finish removing everything in the kitchen. Then two more days (at least)of drying. I rescheduled my shops for monday and tuesday because I've had a headache that just won't give up. The doggy is doing well. She seems happy enough but the cone on her head drives her bananas. She wants to lick her leg where it's stapled more than we can possibly imagine.

CQ, do the people working on your remodel do weekends or are you having some quiet time today? Oh, that's right, I think you wrote you are working this weekend. That's nice, right? How's the sweet little dog doing?
Sounds like you could use a massage! I used to get migraines when the kids were little. They went away when the kids grew up and moved out of the house, LOL. Sorry you are feeling poorly, getting plenty of water, I hope. I also used to get headaches if I didn't drink enough water. The key is to make sure that your electrolytes are in balance as well. Your body won't absorb the water properly without sodium, so try some water and soda crackers or another salty snack, or drink some Powerade, maybe? Get some rest. Hope you (and the dog) feel better soon.
I decided to nix the complaining and focus on the new kitchen, so today I'm on the Lowe's website looking at cabinets. I'm thinking a light maple because I like bright airy kitchens. My old kitchen was white cabinets with bright yellow painted walls. I would like to change the walls to a tealish green and get a really nice quartz for the countertops. Lowe's has some really pretty beadboard cabinets that would look good in this 125 year old house. [www.lowes.com] Not sure where our particular contractor gets his supplies but this is what I want.
Thanks. I think it's just the heat. I do worry that they might turn into migraines but so far so good. It's eased up a little. I drink plenty of water and my deli food has tons of salt! LOL

You may want to research this At one point there was some correlation between things like deli meats and migraines. I realize the prevailing thought on most subjects changes all the time and haven't kept up.

Nitrates have carcinogens, too. But so do grilled meats, and that bone-in ribeye last night was sooooo good.
Not sure what I could do about it. Typically I cook most of our food from whole foods little to none prepackaged ingredients. Right now deli or takeout is the only option. Can't go out for dinner and leave the doggy. I gotta say that most of this food sucks. Even the guac was too salty and had some weird flavoring. How the hell do you mess up an avocado?
Oh, everytime I go to a Mexican restaurant in my area I wonder the same thing. Chipotle has good guacamole but they don't use preservatives. I am guessing they add a lot of preservatives at the deli and the Mexican (some of them) restaurants. Anyway, if you only ate food from the deli for a few days to a week, it might actually be the reason you have a headache but doubtful it's going to cause any long term issues.
That dry skin remedy sounds delicious.

So does the weather. But I would wonder if I should be eating that dry skin remedy instead of putting it on my skin. Makes sense that it would work from the inside out, right? Maybe do both?
I think both. Lemon and honey are both really good for you. Yogurt for digestion and a little orange juice is always nice.

Maybe it will make your headache go away. Eat some for a snack, then have your wife give you a facial and neck massage!
Sounds like a plan!

Too bad you can't trade those hero citations for a massage with your local LMT. What did you do to get back love, you have a massage chair, hot tub, etc.?

How's the sweet little dog doing?

Today, the back lifted light free weights, stretched, and did a few poses. It practically purred during the modified cat pose. I don't think my version is official, but it works. It also got heat ice, and a quiet time on the porch.

2. Poor little dog. *sigh*

3. The skin care recipes in later posts remind me of the stuff that Virginia Castleton published. Using the inside of a grape on the face, as she suggested all those years ago, now makes me think of resveratrol (?) that we can get today. I think we are wanting the old-fashioned kitchen recipes for skin care, but we have new names associated with some of the earthy ingredients or derivatives of them. Long before Castleton, NIna L and others used similar recipes. Milk, cream. yogurt, oils, butters, wine, champagne, honey, orris, leaves, essences, attars, ottos, and all sorts of fruits of the earth still do good work for us. The booze they used to preserve their perishable products has largely been replaced by other, non-alcoholic preservatives in prepared products. Some of these are okay, aren't they? Somewhere, there is a loooooooooooooooong list of cosmetic ingredients.

My Rick Steves' Guide to Ireland arrived and I have been reading up. Maybe 2019, as I have a huge trip to rural Maine coast planned for August 2018.

Today Hubby and I did a bike ride organized by a local trails club. There were four route options. We did the 22-miler. I storm came through the area last night, and the trails were littered with tree debris and a couple of big limbs, which made riding interesting.

I spent a weekend in Maine in May and was amazed. Arcadia is a must see!
I'm thinking about an extended UK trip next spring. England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland.

bg,
I recommend an extended trip in just Wales. It has great history, a varied landscape, weekly sheep auctions (long story there), mountains, steam trains (5 at last count), the 2nd highest tidal fall on earth, castles, stately homes, and regional bus systems that make renting a car unnecessary. Add in an archaeological dig to tour, Roman aqueduct to walk across, great seafood, botanical gardens, stately homes, and a marvelous folk history park and you will have more than enough to fill 3 weeks.

This sounds like great fun but 22 miles? Lord have mercy! LOL

Rural Maine is on my bucket list. Enjoy!

Today is what should be the last of a 5+ day stretch of desperately hot and humid days of the sort that make it hard for be to both walk and breathe. (AKA "Code Orange" and Code Red" Air Quality Alerts. So, I continue to stay in filtered, cool air and putter around the house. Tomorrow and the rest of the week will be hell on wheels MSing.

i am getting a tooth crowned. Filling from almost 40 years ago, redrilled a couple of times, finally just needs to ne capped off. Ugh.
Oh yuk. I just went through it, but mine was an ordeal and ended up requiring 4 dentist visits for 1 tooth. Hope yours is less eventful.

Phone calls to set up the rest of the week.

What I am not doing is getting my lawn watered as originally planned. Pulled back the curtains to look at the sliding glass door in the kitchen this morning and found a fawn snuggled up to the fence. He looked so comfortable I didn't want to disturb him. He sunned himself in the same spot for about three hours. Half hour ago he moved down the fence line to lay in the shade.

Lisa, how lovely. Our local deer are in hiding in the deep shade around the pond out back, I think. I am soooo ready for autumnal weather!

I live in a downtown neighborhood and we never see deer. can't shake a stick without hitting a possum though.
She will be nearby. Does leave their fawns like this when they are small. Staying away protects the fawn plus it is easier for them to feed when the little one can't keep up. They return closer to evening to nurse.

This one looks to be too small to be the one born the first week in June. That one I didn't see for a couple of weeks, but I sure heard him bleating in the woods. Whiniest baby ever. I often hear the does calling back to the youngsters. They make this odd sound that's kind of a cross between a moo and gruntsmiling smiley

As of now I am sure we have at least one single baby, maybe two, and a set of twins. I won't know for sure until the herd starts hanging out together in a month or two. It is hilarious when all the fawns are finally together and big enough to play.
