who buys a hamburger at In n Out? What is the point of that, to make sure they know that you're a shopper?
No In N Outs here on the Right Coast. sad smiley

The name of the place always reminds me of "A Clockwork Orange" anyway.
What is wrong with a hamburger? I bet all of their burgers have cheese and other toppings.. But if you get a HB, it will be same price as a CB sad smiley

We don't have one here, but a-lot of places here, if you take off the cheese you pay the same price. Just like Sonic, TRH, Bubba's.. It seems a-lot of the major chains do this sad smiley

We do have a couple of MOM and Pop restaurants that serve HB, CB, and other things.. Just say a HB meal is one price,, Then in another section on the menu they listed a CB with a different price.,
I grew up on In N Out. I'm not a homer. Personally if someone else was paying, I would take 5 guys all day every day over In N Out because the meat patty is bigger, more topping choices and the fries are much better.

BTW, In N Out is shopped regularly. You only see the Sassie email notifications because most of the shoppers don't like the hamburger scenario. They want the cheeseburger or Double Double scenario.

Ever think of this? In N Out runs probably the best program for analytics. All locations have the same requirement. So if all the shops are done correctly, they have results that are consistent for each round.

When you allow shoppers to order whatever, then timings can be skewed based on certain things.

Some people might be lactose intolerant. I agree most people get the cheese. I have done these in the past and taken my own slice of cheese with me and placed it on the burger after getting my order.

Who cares? If you like In N Out, you will do the shop. It's a full meal. It might not be a double-double, but you can pretty much count on a flawless experience.

All of their customer-facing employees speak clear English and there are no communication issues. You will get fresh food. You will not get any attitude from any of the employees. I am not claiming they are perfect, but the are the best of the mass chain fast food. It's like Costco employees too.

Costco and In N Out hire the better employees. Those that end up at other fast food places or at Sam's Club could not land a job at In N Out (as long as there were locations in their area). They also PAY more for their better talent.

They both serve Coca-Cola products and not the foul pepsi crap.

But if I'm paying out of pocket, my cheapbutt will take In N Out.
Agree, except I will take I-N-O over 5G's on my own dime any day. And 5G's if no I-N-O. And I am so sick of people saying Sam's is just as good as Costco. Sorry, no comparison.

And those who like Kroger rotisserie chicken, taste one from Costco at $4.99. Plus, I know way too much about how nasty Kroger is with food safety from doing audits on them for years. They can make their locations look nice with their remodels and new stores, but their practices on cleanliness and food safety fail. Not trying to break your heart, but it is true.
Actually, The single hamburger costs less than a single patty cheeseburger, there is no menu item for a double hamburger, never has been. The items are listed on the menu individually with the price that you will pay. I was raised in Southern California, I lived there for the first 55 years of my life. I ate at In n Out at least weekly, and sometimes more often than that while I was working. A LOT more often than that when the new In n Out in Menifee, CA opened up just down the street from the place I worked.

What HB says about In n Out is right, it's is the same at EVERY location. The same customer service, the same food, prepared the same way, EVERY time. Your Double Double, french fries and drinks will taste exactly the same in Dallas, TX as they do in Riverside, CA, or at any location in between. I bought a cheeseburger meal once, and spent the next several days wishing I had bought a Double Double. I've had the Double Double meal without a bun when I was trying to avoid eating wheat. And I decided that I'd rather not go to In n Out unless I can eat what I want to eat. So for about 6 years before I left CA I didn't go to In n Out, and regretted it when I got here and none of my favorite fast food places are here.

In Northern AL, at least until a few weeks ago, there was no Del Taco, or JIB, or In n Out, or Long John Silvers. I'm sure there are more, but those are the ones I miss. I found a Long John Silvers in Lawrenceburg, TN, so now when I do grocery shops I make sure to go to Lawrenceburg at least once. There are Del Tacos in Rome, GA so I try to do a grocery shop over there occasionally. I haven't found a JIB yet, and In n Out stops in Dallas, TX, so I'm shucks out of luck. A few weeks ago we got our very own Del Taco in a big shopping center in the biggish city just north of me. I haven't been there yet, I don't generally go into that shopping area when I can avoid it, but I will go soon(ish).

And Purple isn't lying.. I used to be quasi-related to some corporate food service managers in the Kroger organization in AZ.

I remember when In-N-Out first opened in Dallas. The lines were crazy at first. I pass by some on occasion, but it doesn't seem to be as popular here.
My Texas friend swears by Whataburger. Now that I have both in Arizona, I can see advantages to Whataburger. They have a bigger menu. They do serve Coca-cola products. They have an app and offer deals. The bigger is bigger at Whataburger.

For my own money and NO deal, I take In N Out. If you are going to give me a free Whataburger if I buy fries and a drink ($6), I'll go that route since I like the value.

There is nothing wrong with Whataburger, but if Texans are used to Whataburger like Californians are used to In N Out, it is hard to change that.

edited to add In N Out does NOT franchise. You get the same quality and the same treatment from all In n Out locations. They thrive on value, customer service, and quality.

Whataburger is coming here.. they are popping up everywhere. Everything there seems to have the same after taste.. I'm not fan.
I am a fan of Whataburger's grilled chicken sandwiches. I like to say it all as one word..whataburgerchickensandwich. My famliy makes fun of me.

I think I've only had Whataburger two or three times. The first time was as a child on a family vacation in Corpus Christi near Padre Island. We had it for breakfast. I remember it being good.

The other one to two times, I don't remember much about the food.
Whataburger tastes very similar to Burger King. It's highly overrated. In-n-Out is actually good, and it is a great value. Fries well done!
I only have one fast food weakness....it's a southern chain
Culvers - those pretzel bites with the cheese dipping sauce.
I really am not crazy about fast food (other than In and Out burger lol)....but Culvers has those little yummy things.

Culver's is a Midwestern chain. Cheese curds, walleye, and frozen custard all scream Wisconsin.
Culver's is here, as well. Over the years, I think pretty much everything has made its way here.
We Have a bunch of Culver's here. I want burgers with meat, not burnt to a crisp. That being said, when I go there I usually get a patty melt, because the extra fat and the cheese and the grilled onions make it so the flavorless crunchy hamburger isn't an issue. I like cheese curds too. I saw a sign for the Walleye, and I almost stopped, because I love a good fish sandwich. But we chose to go to Slim Chickens instead because I wanted fried pickles.
Thanks for letting me know that Culvers is found in other regions.
Maybe my mention of them was misleading. I have never seen them shopped.
I think their food is low quality - but for the pretzel bites and frozen custard. Those are yummy. Now that it's been mentioned...I haven't been to one in 2 years, but this weekend, I'll be near one, sooo....

Speaking of fast food - the only other thing I like is the Sonic Limeade.
I like it with lots of ice and cut it with plain seltzer to lower the sugar content...and I add more fresh limes to it.
I know Sonic is shopped, so there's that lol.
years ago, they used to have something called a Frito pie. My daughter loved that junky stuff lol.

Culver's has the best fast-food fish sandwich. It is cod cut in-house and freshly fried. They use fresh burgers, using the smashburger preparation style. The custard is good. Everything else they have isn't that good.
I love What-A- Burger.. I have their app and I get great deals all the time.

We have two of them in my area.. The last time I went to location A, before I placed my order and I paid I scanned my bar code for points.. I placed my order and paid. My points were not added to my account.

A few weeks later went to location B . scanned my bar code.. Order my food and paid and the points were added to my account,

I used to go to Location A all the time.. Now I go to location B

Guess the cashier did not know what to do at Location A.

@Isaiah4031a

You can manually add the points into the account if you still had the receipt. There is a feature in the app to do this.

Yes I know but sometimes it takes 24-48 hours and sometimes it doesn't take it all if you type in the information.

One time I went to location A and I noticed that my points were not added.. While I was waiting on my meal, I type in the information.. I double checked it 3 times.. 48 hours later, still no points. Yes I know sometimes it may take up to 48 hours..

I called WAB support and I gave them all the information from the receipt.. They were added right then over the phone..

And Yes my phone is up to date and the WAB app is up to date

Having grown up in TX, I've always been a Whataburger fan, and try to hit their Love Field airport location when grabbling a flight back home. They top the list when it comes to burger temps and flavors. Always hot and fresh with yummy flavor combos.

And having lived in So Cal on two different occasions, I certainly love me some In 'n' Out.

Unfortunately, Whataburger recently sold to private equity, so the potential for them to go downhill is looming. After talking the up big time to the GF on our road trip to TX a couple of years ago and she came away underwhelmed, while mine didn't quite match the taste memory.

I-N-O remains privately held, and a daughter of the founders is the CEO. Store managers make over $100k a year, so they offer a career path as opposed to just a job, and this evident throughout the customer service and kitchen operations in the caliber of people at play.

As others have mentioned, consistency is the key. The combination of a limited menu and their fresh-only distribution model keeps them in control of the variables, leading to a more consistent overall product.

I thought I wanted to try the walleye at Culvers. We went to the drive thru, the walleye was on the sign, but not on the menu. I asked about it, and I asked for the dinner, when they put the order it in came to $19 and change, for 2 pieces of fish, fries, slaw and a drink. So I asked about the price of a sandwich instead, $10 ($9.89) just for the sandwich. We decided to just come home and eat leftovers. I have both Slim Chickens and PE leftovers in the fridge, and lots of groceries. I'm not spending that kind of money without reimbursement and pay.
I agree with @JimmyP about the taste of Whataburger. To me it tasted like a cold Burger King whopper. I wonder where these good ones are that people are mentioning.

Regarding Culver's, I agree with @Morledzep about the cooking of those sandwiches. Their frozen custard is okay. But then I had a frozen custard from Andy's. Costly, but very good.
