It's easy, but avoid extremely busy times. People are standing around in the way sometimes.
I find it easy. I buy JM subs anyway, so why not get a free one? I have another scheduled for tomorrow.

Shopping Southeast Pennsylvania, Delaware above the canal, and South Jersey since 2008
I did them for the previous MSC and they were sooooo much easier. One photo of the sandwich, only comment on no answers, payment $8 plus $15 reimbursement. Wish they were still with the old MSC.

I did one for the current MSC with a $10 bonus and $15 reimbursement. Customers kept getting in the way and the associates were making sandwiches so I had to wait quite a bit of time for them to move so I could take the photos of the sandwich prep area. I was allowed to choose between dine in and take out so I chose dine in just so I could get my photos. I would never do one of these without a fee so I will wait until they are bonused again before doing another one.
I tried one and took the picture of the wrong slicing machine. That one was difficult enough to get discreetly, much less the one they want in the front position. Maybe I'll try another one to confirm my thoughts about this. I love me some JM...

Have synthesizers, will travel...

Easier than I thought it would be. I've been fortunate in that several of them in my area have bonused up recently to $15 plus reimburse.

I'm not sure I agree with some of the comments here about the difficulty of getting the photos. Are you guys waiting until after you get your order and pay, then leave the line, before taking the photos? Otherwise, not sure how other customers would get in the way. I take them when I'm in line, right up near the slicer and the prep area. I find having people in front of me in line helps because it distracts the workers. The only complication is that up close, depending on location, cling signage on the glass sometimes partially obscures the slicer, but I've found the MSC's editors are chill about this.

I just canceled one of those shops. Besides the problem I thought I would have taking the pics, is the LOW pay for all that work, trying to get pics. For all those pics, they should raise the pay!
While I was ordering, I was the only person at the counter. All 3 employees were at the front counter blocking the back line, and they were looking at me so I couldn't get the photo of the slicer and front line, either. As soon as I reached the register, about 7 people walked in and it was a steady stream of customers after that for the most part. And I went after 3pm to avoid peak times. I was okay with that since I got paid the fee (and it was only 3 miles from home) but never will I do one for reimbursement only.

They're pretty easy for the area I live in. The stores aren't very popular in my area so normally I'm the only person in there so it's pretty easy to take the required photos. In the few that I've done I've only had 2 stores that had other customers and it was only one person and a couple.
I just had one returned requesting a picture of the meat case. I took one, but did not include it originally because the guidelines only list pictures for the slicer, prep area and sandwich.
The pics seem easy to me. I like doing these. They are pretty fast reports. I like to get in line snap meat slicer as soon as employee turns around, get back prep while pretending to play phone game, snap photos of chips meat case sometimes I add exterior and dining room photos. The hardest to remember is sandwich before I devour it. No one ever seems suspicious.

Odd. Did you report the meat case as dirty or having less than two layers? When the meat case is A-OK, I don't include a photo and haven't had a problem.
If you have a fail on the meat case, then you need the photo.

I've done a few, the sandwich one seems to be the main photo that they care about. My other photos haven't been great, I can usually get the front slicer standing in line as I start to order. You can put multiple photos in, sometimes I have to do a few to cover the whole area. Once at night I was able to take the prep area with back counter, through the front door. Just depends on how the store is laid out.

Just be sure to check your phone before you leave in case you messed up one.

I came searching for this post because of the slicer photo: I did a JM shop when they first started and it was easy, but today (did guidelines change?) I’m looking at the 3 “acceptable” examples and the 3 “unacceptable “ examples of meat slicer photos and… I can’t tell the difference at all!!! Can anyone tell me the difference? Link: [imgur.com]

The top 3 photos show clean slicers. The bottom 3 show slicers with debris or piled up, leftover meat.
So you have to take the picture of the slicer before they make your sandwich? That seems wrong (easier to do after they finish slicing and start assembling), but I guess that is the difference.
I’ve only done one of these and most likely will not do another unless I pick it up bonused last minute. I really like the company, but they schedule these 1 month out and it’s not easy to reschedule. If a reschedule date is not available, the shopper gets dinged. These type of shops need to be on Presto since there is no pay. I understand scheduling a fine dining a month out, but not a walk in sub shop with no shopper pay and multiple photos.

No, you don't have to. They're supposed to wipe down the slicer pretty regularly, like after every sandwich or two. I don't think one or two specks of meat from your sandwich necessarily fails the slicer. Generally you can tell if they've been letting crap build up. Just use common sense.

I'll admit the sample photos aren't great illustrations.

I just did the shop and could barely get a pic at all because it was obstructed by sneeze guard and ads, but anyway it wasn’t wiped down (but during a rush, should it be?). But my real confusion was whether the “unsatisfactory” referred to the quality of the picture itself, and it would be rejected and no pay. Now I think it’s referring to an unacceptable situation, not an unacceptable photo. Confusing though.
The sample photos are all roughly the same quality (clarity, angle, etc). It is typical for guidelines to have examples of what passes the standard.

Sorry, this site is glitching now, the edit I attempted on my previous post showed up in the wrong spot, and when I try to fix it, the fix shows up while I'm editing but not in the post. So I'm trying an original post. Let's see if this often-glitch-ridden site lets it go through. I'll delete if not.

They should wipe down the slicer every customer or two, rush or not.

I'm pretty sure the "unsatisfactory" refers to the condition of the slicer. I agree that the MSC should have provided more clarity on this. Examples of "unsatisfactory photos" should have a blurry photo or a photo that's so off-center it barely shows any of the slicer, but with MSCs you never know.

I've found the MSC's editors are very forgiving if a cling ad partially blocks the slicer. They're more likely to bust your nads on the narrative. I actually find the clings can work to your advantage. You tell the slicer employee what sammich you want, they go to get the meat, you click the photo, and the cling usually blocks the counter employee from seeing you taking it.

Of course, remember to take a photo for "no" answers like the appearance of the meat case, chips rack, etc.
I d9nt find it hard at all. Lots of people have phones in their hand in stores. I have done about 12 of them with no issue.
So far, no issues. I might've done close to 10 different locations. I'm flanked by Jersey Mike's. There's one near wherever I go. I go towards the end of the day when it's less busy.
I've been thinking of trying one for a bit, but the pay just isn't motivating me to potentially look like a creep getting the required photos.
There were three employees at my location, only one of them turned to get bread and the other two were looking at me.

I like Jersey Mikes. I have never done a shop there but yesterday I went for a sandwich. The service was the WORST! A clueless girl was trying to make sandwiches for 3 people at once. The person in back of me ordered special GF bread- I clearly said plain bread. Sandwiches made nd when i went to p ay was charged for GF bread which I did not want. I asked for a refund. The manager was called and she took about 15 minutes trying to figure out how to refund me the 2.15 up charge. The line of customers waiting to pay grew and grew. I was getting looks from the other customer as my issue was holding up the line. In the end the manager who also was quite clueless simply refunded me the price of the entire order- a win for me I guess. I did not love the GF bread but what the heck it was free. If this was a shop they would have gotten a really poor report!
