Shops you wouldn't even want to try (even despite high pay)

Many of mine have already been listed. I'll add the AAA calls for service that are all over the otter app. My car has 110K miles on it and I'm not going to burn one of my three free calls on one of those.

I see adult entertainment shops in my area all the time that pay a lot. Not gonna do that for any amount, although I did do a few Hooters years ago when the MS pickings were slim. The food was great and I actually enjoyed it.

Hooters is going "tits up"...[bankruptcy in case you are not aware of that financial term] smiling smiley
It was a very greasy quesadilla. I have many photos of the yucky item on my phone of course.

famous chilaquiles place on Sunset

Ooh, please share! Or DM me if we're too off topic.

Well, no one was paying you to get famous chilaquilles. Now if that happens, I'll be about to reach my record weight!
@olympia tennenbaum I have been paid to eat chilaquiles before! I specifically remember because the editor (who was from the midwest) wrote me back to ask what they were, and if it was spelled right. They could not be bothered to google it, apparently.

Sandy also asked about the location, so for any other Angelinos out there, Tacos Delta on Sunset!

I also recently got paid to eat what might have been the best taco of my life, in Bangkok, which is really surprising, because good Mexican food in Thailand had been hard to find.

And @rargirl, I feel your pain. The taco was no better...which really puts me back on topic, because I am refusing to shop anything outside of my normal routine moving forward.

You want me to order breakfast at 7 AM?...Nope!
Complain about something non-existent...Forget it!
Make up some crazy excuse to sit at the bar before/after dinner...Never again!
Not leave the resort for the entire duration of my stay...It better be on a very small island!

Okay, I'll definitely look that up. I'm guessing I could have been paid to eat them but haven't made that selection. Sometimes there are too many good choices. Other times you're just searching for something edible!

It's a breakfast staple at almost all of the resorts in Mexico.
Mexico! land of breakfast...I've noted most restaurants there serve breakfast until around 1PM.... if I never see another chilaquile in my life, I'll be just fine lol.

Anyway, an update on the cruise shopper with norovirus....he's still sick and barely able to function.
He says at this point, he may lose all the money they spent on the cruise......he hasn't been able to finish his reports...sounds like they may be overdue and not sure if he was able to finish all the observations.

This is really a heads up for me wrt any shops with a big upfront outlay. I feel for the guy. Talk about a double whammy.

Yeah, the best version I ever had was in Akumal. Sadly, I'm not at all unfamiliar with them!
Most of the tax prep shops I have seen are revealed shops so they. know you are a mystery shopper. I had that same question but then decided to pass on the one that has a huge bonus in my area because it also requires you to sign up for the recommended product and I don’t have any desires to have a product from the client that I have to then get rid of later.

I refuse the bank complaint shops- people can be fired for no reason which is not right- I also will not do the tax prep shops. I wonder how someone who has mystery shopping income would not be suspected of being a shopper? I do not trust tax firms- use my own CPA who I know is open year round and highly qualified- I also steer away from dining shops where the amount of picture taking and required narrative in the report would make it not fun at all. I did a few where timing and taking photos of food and being sure the photos were good enough made it a miserable experience. I also have been steering away from one company's apartment shops- I did one a couple of years ago and the reports were miserable to write- very detailed with extensive narrative for $45 then waiting a week for a follow up which never came as the complex was designed for younger folks and I suspect the agent knew I would not fit in- trying to find objections that were valid and pretending to really need an apartment in a complex where a senior citizen would not really want to live was not to my liking. Also some low paying phone shops with ridiculous guidelines. Some of the senior living shops which were phone calls- despite giving a pretty good story I often got the impression that they knew I was not really looking for a place for my parents- it was embarrassing when they started asking my parents home address, phone number so that they could look them up to see where they lived in the town- when there wee no such people! One assisted living rep actually called me back and said she looked up the names I gave her and there were no such people and accused me of being a fraud and questioned whey I was calling and wasting her time! The rate sheet shops are on my not wanting to do list as I have been blown off several times after making 3-4 phone calls.
Sorry for the "insult to injury" for your friend, that has to be miserable.

Also, I'd like to know what company does the cruise shops!
Did you guys see the latest coffee shop? They want you to try to stay there without buying anything until the staff confront you about having to purchase something. All this for a reimbursed coffee and $5. Nope. Nope. Also don't like that it’s testing if the employees confront you, when the policy change was due to issues with homeless people.
The policy was not put in place because of the homeless. There are tons of people that go everyday and just sit there doing their work on their devices, using the free Wi-Fi, plugging all their electronics in, using the restroom, and never purchasing anything. They stay there all day without making a purchase. All their stuff is spread out either on the large tables designated for the handicapped or they take two small tables for themselves and use 3 chairs. One to sit on, one for their book bag and one for their feet.

There was a guy in my local location recently conducting employee interviews at a table there. And other people waiting to interview were taking all the other available tables. No one was buying coffee...
Yes, this is definitely something happening at coffee shops. Before I finally had fiber installed in my LA neighborhood I had a dsl plan with 3 MG of service. The local Starbucks was a demo site with the best and fastest internet available. When my son visited and "worked from home" from my home he would spend the entire day at Starbucks. But he would buy something every hour. It was great because my work and work buddies always gave Starbucks gift cards for any occasion so I had lots of Starbucks bucks for him to use up. He arrived at Starbucks on east coast time so he could get a table but by west coast morning time all the tables would be full.

I’m so sorry for him. I saw that shop. I have never sailed on that line. I also don’t qualify, since I don’t live in Florida.

Back in 2005-2008 I did multiple cruises a year. It was not through the company that has them now. I was able to choose ANY cruise of 7+ days on one of 5 cruise lines. I had to take a companion. If I wanted to take my two kids, I just had to pay for them. I sent my choice into the MSC. They approved it and had their travel agent book it. I only had to evaluate the casino. They also emailed me the employee list 48 hours before departure, so that made getting the names much easier. Never, ever got sick on any cruise. I see lots of norovirus on Holland America though.
I never chose Holland America (senior citizen demographic) or the currently shopped cruise line (not on my list). The shops were never on the job boards. They rotated through 5-10 trusted shoppers.
Scanning item shops…I just saw one of the shops today to scan 229 items for $29!! No way….
