Very interesting article about Five Guys (Last entry: They have tons of Mystery Shoppers)

The article says of the fries: "They're described as crispy on the outside and mashed potato on the inside."

Maybe the author should have consulted some of those mystery shoppers because they are NOT supposed to be "crispy on the outside."
Their burgers are good, but actually, IMO, the same that anyone could make at home.
I prefer burgers to be grilled.
I am glad they mentioned the hamburger rolls lol - I prefer mine to be able to stand up to the burger.

Another funny part: The peanuts "also keep you from looking into the kitchen area, where Five Guys takes its recipes seriously."

Yeah, that was weird. What point was the author trying to make? That the kitchens are dirty or that FG is afraid you'll steal their "recipes?"
Before the current MSC fired me in 2010, I applied for, and was assigned, a 5G. In chatting with the manager concerning their limp and yellow fries, he mentioned they were east coast style. I requested and was given, the mid-western treatment of firm and golden brown.

Wish they would cut the mystery shopping budget and try and reduce prices- I for one am not thrilled to do a shop with a reimbursement which is not adequate to cover a burger fries and drink.
Secret shoppers are guests placed by the corporation itself -- or an agency acting on its behalf -- to check in and ensure everything is operating as it should. From taste-testing burgers to assessing employee uniforms and politeness to checking in on customer satisfaction, Five Guys spends a lot of what other companies would on an advertising budget instead on third parties to peruse franchises in different areas and relate what they see on the ground. Those visits tend to keep each store vigilant in keeping standards top-notch and visitors happy.
I almost died when I saw how many calories that's in their fries. The fat content made my eyes bulged!

Shopping Arkansas, Louisiana, & Mississippi.

But, of course, they are FIRM on the outside and meaty on the inside. smiling smileysmiling smileysmiling smiley
I didn't look at the calories, but you cannot compare 5g fries to other fries as they are not the same portion size. if you want to compare them, make sure you are comparing same size to same size. 5g still might have more, but you need to at least start with same size portions as comparison.
Picnic style tables? I've probably been visiting 5G for 10 years and never seen those.

In summer they have picnic tables outside. Inside, you're right, not picnic table style.
Ain't no picnics going on outside in AZ in the summer time :-P

They need to salt their patties. It's flavorless. I wouldn't pay a dime for their food out of pocket.

The instructions say not to ask for them well done (or crispy, I forget). But yeah, you can apparently request them crispier. I'm not quite sure how they handle separating them from the normal fries.
Curious...do you all have Mayonnaise in the dispenser in the condiment area in your local FG? I note at least two of these photos are from the UK which I find curious. I don't recall mayonnaise in the dispenser (that I recall) in any of the locations I've been to.
If I'm not mistaken, they use mayo on fries in Europe, not ketchup.

@mfisherri

When you go to 5g...are you fully reimbursed since you are an employee or have some form of relationship with the MSC? Are you also waiting for shop fees to reach $20 or higher?

Or do you have to do the ones in your area that others are not taking at base pay?

Have you had any of your shops rejected :-P ?

I appreciate that mfisherri is so active on the boards. I know Briana is on the board for curinos, and I want to think I've seen the scheduler Karen for Ipsos on these forums too. There might be others, but these three stick out to me (or maybe in the threads I'm interested in). I admit there are plenty of topics I ignore completely.
@sestrahelena

i was being nice. I am curious though if she (as an employee) is required to do them in her area to help reduce paying bonuses to non-employees. Would make sense from a company standpoint of reducing costs if you gave your schedulers/editors or other MSC employees a chance at the shops with full-reimbursement and maybe the standard $9 pay.

In general, i wish MSC would stop with the reimbursement amounts and just tell you that they will cover the required order. So if 5g shop needs an entree, fries, drink and shake, they should fully-reimburse regardless if you get the little hamburger, hot dog, big bacon cheeseburger, little fries (not big), regular soda (not large) and shake.

I wonder if the MSCs think we will just order the most expensive items if they don't put a $ limit.
Not that I've ever seen in my neck of the woods, NC and SC. Mayo is in the kitchen. It can be ordered on the entree, or on the side.

I took no offense to @hbbigdaddy, I get it - in some parts of the country a $ doesn't spend the same sad smiley

You might actually be amazed at the level of manipulation some shoppers try to pull. You guys are all cool but there are some super dishonest, sleazy people out there winking smiley

I've seen a few scattered locations that keep mayo in packets at the condiment area, but never in the plastic jugs.
I think I saw some mayo in 2020 (during the covid area), but I think it was in packages like Koko said above.

Shopping Arkansas, Louisiana, & Mississippi.
No mayonnaise at the self-serve counters that I have seen, ever. It is funny that they have it in the UK, but we have the vinegar in the US, like the UK.
Fuddruckers is the only place I've ever seen mayo in a dispenser like what Five Guys has for ketchup.

If your path dictates you walk through hell, do it as though you own the place. -unknown
@drdoggie00

I miss fuddruckers. that liquid cheese!!! I would get the burger and not pay for the cheese slice and use the free liquid cheese. I'd also make a burger salad. lots of lettuce, onions, tomatoes, pickles and then cut up the burger into small pieces..

Apparently they're staging a comeback. We're getting a new boozy one in downtown DC by the arena soon.
