Has anyone completed one of these. Are they simple enough? I have a big sleeper sofa that I need to get rid of and it is heavy. I can pick one up, but it is reimbursement only. I'm wondering it I try waiting if they will tack on a fee.

They will add a fee. I did this once and the fee was $100.

I did one a while back. I don't remember the shop or survey being especially hard but you have to be comfortable with the negotiation scenario. Their prices are very high -- they wanted more than the entire reimbursement amount for a fairly small item until I bargained it down. I think I was ready to just walk away from the shop because I could have gotten rid of the item for $15 via a city hall sticker on trash day until they finally met my price. So you might want to figure out in advance if the reimbursement is likely to cover most or all of that heavy item.

The scenario and form were easy, but their price was outrageous!

I did a junk removal shop a few years ago and from my recollection, it was for a quote only. I received a quote to remove an old Magnavox console sterio and large sofa from my basement. The price was very high in my opinion, but it didn't matter since the shop was just for the quote.

I have done a few where I was reimbursed to get rid of stuff we wanted to get rid of. The report was easy. The fact that it was high-priced didn't matter to me. The last one was to get a quote, refuse it, and report what happened. The report was easy.

Thanks all. They reimburse up to $180, but no fee. I’ll give it a few days to see if a fee is tacked on. Still better than having to mess with it myself if fully reimbursed.

FYI - These services all start out high on purpose and you indeed have to haggle your way through it. (Whether a shop or not.) They will go through the whole thing and even say they have to call their boss to ask if they can accept a price you offer. It is all part of their game.

I did one years ago. It went smoothly except I had to pay in cash. At the time their website said they did not take cash. I was pretty uncomfortable with that negotiation but in the end they accepted my cash. Not sure if the jobs are still cash.

Be careful. This shop can get super-sketchy fast. When I did it, the crew offered a "discount". They asked me to Venmo the payment and said that it would show up in the system as cancelled. It was clear that they were lumping my junk with the last customer's and pocketing the payment themselves. One of my rules for accepting jobs is that I don't do shops where someone who might get fired knows where I live, so I won't be doing this one again.
