Ingles Accepting Cash Only Due to Hurricane

Just in case anybody has a Ingles shop this weekend, due to the fact that their headquarters has flooded in Asheville, they are 100% cash only in all of their stores. I just hate for someone to go through the trouble of shopping them and not have cash or be aware that they needed cash in order to complete their shop.

I don't know if the MSC is rescheduling or not but I just hate for someone to go through the trouble and travel to a store and not be able to complete the shop because they didn't have cash.

I rarely have much in terms of cash on me but happen to have some today so I was able to complete mine without any trouble.

I'm guessing MSC's will reschedule stuff without prejudice given what has happened in the area. I can't even imagine what people are going through.

My most meaningful work* is for a struggling non-profit based in Asheville.

We have a museum space downtown. I saw a picture in the NYT one street over from us that was totally flooded out.

Luckily we only experienced a broken awning support that cracked a front window. As we have dozens of historical, irreplaceable electronic music instruments on display, there's an extra security layer to the glass, so the window did not break.

No water damage to our facility.

We dodged a major bullet. Now we wait for Asheville to rebuild and for tourism to rebound.

*October 3 is the day a donor is being hit up for a matching grant that would fund a full-time position for me.
If that hits, I'll keep shopping selectively, but hopefully my days of driving rideshare will be over. Cross 'em if you got 'em.

Best of luck to you, Cool. Will that mean a cross-country move for you?

Thanks, Doggie!

Luckily I will not have to relocate.

As much as I love Asheville, the cost of living is way too high, and travel access is neither efficient nor cost-effective.

My gig should involve considerable travel once we implement a project we are close to wrapping up. The foundation runs everything through a Delta SkyMiles American Express card, and I live in Delta's major western hub, about 10 minutes from the airport. Perfect setup...

Best aspect is I will visit Asheville more frequently, presenting more opportunities to smuggle beer back home.

When I travel there on my own dime it's always on Southwest. I stick my soft bag with all my stuff in it inside my hard suitcase for the flight out. The suitcase will handle 40 pint cans and stay under the weight limit for the trip home. I've only lost 3 cans in almost 9 years, and two of those were due to early, flimsy packaging from my fave brewery there.

Warren Haynes (the musician) has very close ties to Asheville and does quite a bit of charity work there...so I am looking for him to hold a fundraiser to help the area. If anybody will help, it will be Warren.
Has anyone heard from SA since the hurricane? I think he's over in the area where the bad stuff happened.

He's fine, Morl. He's not in the areas that are bad; just days of rainy weather and watches/warnings.

Did any Ingles shoppers get the email from the MSC saying these grocery shops are on hold until further notice? In my area, Ingles is only letting in 5-7 customers at a time, and payment is cash only. Anyone who wants to shop there that badly has to be willing to stand in a line....outside. Yesterday, I drove past the line and asked how long it was taking to get inside. A man about 7 customers from the door said, "I've been standing here about 35 minutes so far" !!!!!! I thought to myself, Nope, don't need to go there that badly. In my area, there are lots of other grocery shops open and working normally. They're out of lots of stuff, but they're open! In my area, the Upstate of SC, hubby and I are on Day 6 with NO power yet, using a gas generator. Hopefully power on by tomorrow night. But up in Asheville, where Ingles corporate is located, it's a mess up there. It's really very sad. As far as Ingles goes, it may be a good while before the corporate office is open and running again, and they apparently control all the data that runs to all their stores.

Yes! Mine were canceled through the 17th. I was told they were canceling all shops for the client because of the impact to their corporate headquarters and therefore the stores.

I had one yesterday and the store in Georgia was already out of stock on produce, a lot of meat items and quite a few other things because their trucks cannot get from their warehouse in Asheville. They're still cash only. They weren't restricting the number of customers but they were catching people as they walked in the door telling them they were cash only even though it was on the doors and then again reminding folks at checkout.
