Car dealership brochure shop

Why is an authorization letter needed if I am simply asking for a brochure? Sounds like this is a reveal shop, or at least a confrontation with an employee.

What type of brochure? The vehicle brochures or credit card/insurance/junk fee brochures?
Most car dealerships don't have credit card brochures sitting out anywhere, I don't remember ever seeing any at the car dealerships I worked at. If there are any they might be in the finance office, but even that seems unlikely. Folks don't use credit cards to buy cars.

Might find some at the service desk, or the cashier counter, but that seems unlikely too. You're more likely to find repair insurance brochures in the service and cashier areas, maybe the parts department too. I worked in retail auto repair shops for 15 years, never saw credit card brochures in any of them, except the Goodyear that I worked at, and it was only a Goodyear card, not sponsored by Visa or Mastercard like most store cards are now.

The last half of my career was in fleet service for the phone company, we spent far too much time taking new trucks to Chevy dealers for warranty service rather than doing anything to them except oil changes and brakes. None of the Chevrolet trucks made it out of warranty, they all broke in some unrepairable fashion before the end of the warranty period (most of them anyway). There were never any credit card brochures in the service area.

Sometimes there were counter mats on the service desks advertising repair insurance. There used to be a predatory lending company that would cover the cost of the repairs on your car and charge you like 50% interest, but I only saw those at quick lube kinda places, not dealerships.
