Hotworx

Be careful working the locations in Plano or Frisco, TX. I called to make an appointment for a tour the day before the shop. I was told that I didn't need an appointment and to just drop by. I confirmed the hours that a staff member would there. I cannot insist that they schedule an appointment.

Today, I arrived at the first location at 9:30 a.m. They open at 9 a.m. on Friday. There was no one there. After waiting 15 minutes, I called the location. A woman answered. I told her that I had called yesterday and was told to drop by. She told me that no members had scheduled a workout until 11 and that she was on the way. I told her that I would wait for her. She didn't arrive until 45 minutes later.

During my tour, I told her that I would be nervous working out with no staff member present and was concerned since there was no staff member there during scheduled hours. She told me that she was the owner and that help was hard to find. She also told me that she didn't see the need for a staff member since all members have a door code.

On to the next location in Frisco. I arrived at noon. No one was there. After waiting 30 minutes without anyone showing up, I left. I emailed the scheduler to let them know. I have been asked to either return to the location or cancel the shop. I will not return to the location and I will not cancel. I was there and drove 60 miles through downtown Dallas traffic to get there. I will never work the HOTWORX in this area again. The other locations around Dallas have been great but this area is not staffing the locations.

That's why they are doing mystery shops. To find out the information you just provided.

I had a brother in law who used to work selling gym memberships. He had no interest in whether he was doing right by the customer only his paycheck. That's the experience I've had with every gym I looked to join. They get to work out for free and then possibly sell some memberships. Whether they provide real information or not.

I think that's why there are so many gym shops out there.
I tried to do a Hotworx job several months ago in Metro Atlanta area, and had similar results. I had an appointment, and gave up waiting for someone to show up after 20 minutes. The scheduler did not want to accept my report with these facts, and insisted I must not have made an appointment. Obviously, never picking up any of these shops ever again

Thanks for posting about your experiences. I've tbought about doing a few Hotworx shops in Philadelphia and Fort Lauderdale. Will keep your perspectives in mind if / when I choose to do these shops.

Also, it's further affirmation that I shouldn't bother with a gym membership and should opt for home workout or using equipment / apparatuses at local parks.

I don't think there are any Russians / And there ain't no Yanks

Did one of these before the appointment requirement. Owner gave the tour. So darn hot in the place. Ladies working out came out of the booths sweating and panting like they were about to pass out. Found report a bit long. Never again.
I have worked most of the locations around Dallas and had no problems with the shops. They were run professionally and I had no problems with the reports. It is the franchise owner in the locations I mentioned that is the problem. She is now saying that I was wrong in my report. They don't want to pay me for the location where I waited an hour. In over 25 years of mystery shopping, I have never had a shop declined. Avoid the locations I mentioned because even if you have a confirmed appointment, no one is likely to be there. They will not pay you even though I had to drive 50 miles through downtown Dallas traffic to get there. I had to wait an hour at one location, the other was closed and the other was very unprofessionally run. I lost $70 in pay and that doesn't include the gasoline and loss of my time.
Personally I would never drive 50 miles in downtown traffic for a $35 shop. I guess I value my time and car a bit more than others might. Time to drive 50 miles, then time doing shop on site then driving 50 miles back then spending time reporting for $35. Plus cost of gas. No thanks. Guessing my over 35 years of shopping I has made me a better judge of what is worth it and what is not.
You are not a very good judge of anything. I had four other shops that I had assigned myself in the same area. I made $170 that day. Do you know what the word assume breaks down into? It makes an Ass of U & Me.
