Five Guys So D%#M Expensive!

Saw this article and read comments on Reddit about how out of control 5G prices are. Curious when the shopping program will end, or when the reimbursement will go up, especially if they want us to get burgers…generally speaking.

The other day when I was there, one location had a piece of paper taped over the old prices with higher prices written in. I used to be able to get a meal for under 16 but now I am at 17 even. luckily the reimbursement is covering it or I would not be doing these shops.

They actually did increase the reimbursement amount sometime last year.

I am sure certain areas are higher or lower but if mystery shoppers have to shell anything out of pocket for this shop, I don't think they will continue to shop
The high prices are one reason I ask for higher shopper pay. If I have to go out of pocket the higher fees pays for it.

The two locations I have done for $30 and are now getting to $18 with MAO. But they won't accept the $30 I've gotten before.
I saw that receipt picture on Reddit and Twitter. Over $24 for a Bacon Cheeseburger, Small Fry, and a Beverage. The guy also tipped 10%, but that is a crazy price for that food.

Their fries are great, but I don't feel like shelling out over $5 for an order.

When they opened one, there was a long line, but now it is short. I don't know if it is a function of people deciding it is not worth it and they're opting for cheaper alternatives. 5 Guys is notorious for constantly raising prices.
Several credit cards are offering 10 percent off if you activate the offer before using that credit card. It helps. You get the money back but reimbursement is still 17.25.
The story about out of control pricing at FG is all over Twitter and elsewhere....the company will need to fight back against all the negative press, but only God knows how they can do that.
I would not eat at FG If not a shop. I found a receipt the other day from a FG shop I did in 2007. I was living in a major city at the time and the burger price (full size burger, two patties) was $5.99
The location I shop now is empty most of the time.

I agree. I don't understand why a plain burger at 5G costs the same as a 5G burger with all 15 of their toppings.
I don't see how 5 Guys' random pricing is in any way connected to President Biden's economic policies. 5 Guys prices keep going up, even when inflation is going down. Same as grocery prices, they aren't pricing according to demand, or availability. They are pricing according to what the market will bear.

Meat in CA sells for $1 - $2 less per lb. in CA than it does in AL at Kroger stores. They price by what consumers will accept, not by the actual cost. The price of meat in the small town I live near is another $1 - $2 higher than in the large city North of me, and it's price controlled, both grocery stores (different names) are owned by the same company, and the local meat market all keep their prices exactly the same. To get a better price, I have to leave this county. The POTUS doesn't have anything to do with it.
I agree with you with In N Out. It is one of the few places I patronize with my own money.. I did a 3x3, strawberry shake and large drink for $13.

BuT in defense of five guys...their burgers ARE BIGGER. their topping ARE BETTER. and their fries are better.

I don't begrudge five guys...but i'm not willing to spend my money there.

I did a shop at The Stand (small chain in SoCal). It was $37 for me for lunch. I would never spend like this. Place was quite busy and food was very good. Some people have lost touch with reality or maybe i'm just living in the past. I remember George on Seinfeld with the clown and living in the past with Bozo the Clown.

I would never eat there is not on a shop. When doing a shop and sitting there 15 minutes eating to be sure the hidden cameras do not indicate I left early (LOL) and to judge how efficient, happy, friendly and overjoyed the poor people who have to work at a fast food place are (LOL)- as if anyone working there can be so happy- I look at the customers and think- gee you are really stupid for paying that much for THIS food! Potatoes are cheap even with inflation and the grease they cook them in to soak the bag up cannot cost that much! Not worth the price at all. I have family who eat there and I often think what fools they are- for a family of 4 they pay over $60 for food that is sub par to say the least.

The last shop I did at 5G they gave me a burger with such a small patties I had problems seeing it when I opened it to check if all the many toppings were there.

Ordered a single but given a double by mistake. With all the toppings did not realize it was a double until I had bitten into it and started to eat it. . Did not report the mistake as did not have the patience to wait for a new one to be made. Actually what would have corrected it would be to remove one patty which seemed silly to me, The amount of meat even with the double patty not much for the price.

OldmanJames, the kitchen is not allowed to accept returned food from customers, regardless of whether the order was flubbed. Had you advised them of the error, a brand new burger would have been made for you. Ca-ching$.

maverick1..evidently you don't understand Econ 101 either. Greed is a powerful motivator for pricing. Company profits are up but prices are not declining. As for the national debt, greed again is at the front. Check out all the earmarks by the red states despite all their posturing about reducing the debt.
I returned a burger on a shop as it had mayonnaise on it which I do not like. They asked to look at burger, apologized. took the burger and tossed it in the trash and made me a new one. I had to stand there waiting for the new one which took over 7 minutes- and then had to sit there for the 15 after receiving the burger to "observe"- I was on a tight schedule that day and the 20 minute delay made me have to rush to the next shop. No offer to let me have the burger I complained about they simply tossed it. If they gave free burgers to everyone complaining they would have to charge even more to cover the additional costs and everyone would be on to them and return things.

When prices are unacceptable to me, I walk. There are many items, though, I consider life essential, prescriptions and baby formula are two that come to mind, and those should not be what the market will bear.
Weird. Just yesterday he announced how he's jumping in to impact the price of consumer items. Maybe you need to let him know he has nothing to do with this? I think he likes X/Twitter as a communication channel!

The earmarks by the red states? Are you sure? Unless CA and NY are suddenly in the red, your comment is not factually correct. The most earmarks go to CA.

So happy that President Biden is going to start legal action against companies to combat product shrinkage- what a great idea! So companies will need to hire lawyers or spend the time of their legal staff to defend themselves which will only lead to higher prices! The shrinkage that needs to be addressed is Biden's brain if he has one- what a stupid idea!

Ah, this only goes to prove there are a lot of slow kids in the back of the class who don't understand ECON-101. You will. Eventually. It might be painful though. More so for your kids. Just look at the building trillions in public debt. Meanwhile, there are many who bicker about another dollar at some "guys" place. smiling smiley ROFL

What does Econ 101 have to do with the fact that 5G is expensive?

I think everyone understands inflation, cost of goods rising, labor increases blah blah blah. It doesn’t change the fact that it is expensive.
Why is there so much political discussion here? Doesn't it belong in the General Chat section? I come here to read about 5Guys, only to find polarizing, negative talk about presidential candidates.

Real customers have a right to complain about 5 Guys ridiculously high prices. Mystery shoppers who are getting reimbursed for the high prices do not! Remember, you are there to get paid for an honest evaluation, not to get free food. BTW, the client does NOT require us to get burgers, extra toppings, or larger sizes of fries.

The moderators approve of it, so I guess that's the way it goes. I visit and participate in the forum less than I would otherwise because of it, but whatever. Not my forum.

I never said client REQUIRES us to get any of what you mentioned.

They do however, encourage us to get a burger as that is “one of” the main things they are “hoping” to evaluate. That being said, feel free to order any entree, fries and a fountain drink.

It's odd how they want us to order a drink at Five Guys but don't actually ask us for our opinion about the quality (which can be hit or miss sometimes with those Freestyle machines). I guess they just want to see if the employees are working to make more money for Five Guys by asking if we want a drink or anything else to go with our purchases. Take away the drink requirement and that'll trim $3 off the bill right there. They could do that, let us have water, and we can still mention if they tried to sell us a drink or not.

My "go to" is the "little" hamburger or cheeseburger. Plenty of food and enough meat with one patty instead of two. So even with all the other requirements, I'm spending maybe $1-2 over the food reimbursement. That's fair enough to me, especially when I get an even higher shop fee sometimes as an incentive.

It's a bit more reasonable per person if you take someone with you (which is allowed), each get a "little" hamburger or cheeseburger, and split an order of fries. One of you can get water as well. But I doubt I would eat at Five Guys much if at all if they stopped doing the secret shopping.
