Paypal

Does anyone use Paypal? All of the companies I work for either send a check or have direct deposit. I was just contacted by a company whose shops I'd like to perform, but they use Paypal. I do have an account set up, but I've never used it or attached my bank account to it. My question - the company deposits the payment into the Paypal account. Is there a fee to transfer that payment into your checking account? Because these payments are small and it doesn't make sense to pay a fee for a $10 or $15 payment. Thanks.

If your Paypal account is a basic one there is no fee to receive the payments from a company that does the payments right and no fee to transfer your payment along to your bank. I have both my personal and my shopping email account linked to my Paypal account. When a payment comes in, I receive an email that it is there. I go and immediately 'withdraw' to transfer the money to my bank. The transfer usually takes about 3 business days and entails no fees.
I use the basic account for paypal, over 5 years and never had a problem, about 50% of my companies require paypal.

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
Only if you're in the US are there no fees. If you're in Canada, there is a $0.50 fee to withdraw less than $150, $0 to withdraw $150 or more. There are also really bad exchange rates to transfer US$ into CDN$ or vice-versa. If you want all the details, go the the Paypal page, log in then click on "My Account", then click on "Withdraw". All the fees are listed.
I have had my paypal account for ten years and have had no problems. I usually wait until my account has reached $100.00 and then transfer it to my bank. I buy some items ebay through that same paypal account. I did do a non-us shop last year and was not charged any fees.
I've had PayPal since 2000, and have only had one problem with them. In the wee hours of the morning, I made a large purchase at Amazon using my PayPal debit card. PayPal called me the next morning to verify the purchase since it was out of the norm for me. Somehow, later that day, the card was closed for fraud reported and my Amazon order did not go through.

As an apology, a customer service agent at PayPal issued me a $20 credit to my account for my trouble. I was a little perturbed at my order being delayed, but pleased that they even monitored transactions like that. Also, the customer service peoples were all friendly on the phone and worked with me to figure out what happened and resolve the issue.

I've never had problems receiving money. I do wish one of the MSC's I work with would lump all the little jobs into one PayPal payment come payday instead of making individual transactions for each one. But that's not a PayPal issue! smiling smiley
CRI is the only one that charges for paypal use... looks like its slightly less than 0.31% i know paypal does charge but i am betting the company covers the cost... as it is usually minimal...

shopping north west PA and south west ny
What a surprise that CRI charges...LOL It all depends on how they earmark the payments they send.
I have never been charged for using PayPal and I have been using it before I started doing Mystery Shopping. TYhe first I used them was on e-Bay and I have never been unsatisfied with their service.
I like PayPal. I like being paid by PayPal deposit. You can pay someone else with PayPal (like ebay, I love to buy, it's like a big online garage sale, and I do love a good garage sale) or transfer to your bank account. They have never charged me anything. You can also, although I have not done it, get a PayPal credit card so you could charge some of your shop purchases to PayPal. I am told that you are charged a small fee for that.
You earn cash back when you use the PayPal debit card. It's not much, only 1% I think, but it's something.
Wow, TechSavvy, good to know. Maybe I will get the card. I've thought about it before but never got around to it. Do you use it much? Any problems with the card?
I've never had trouble with anyone accepting it either online or at a brick and mortar. Add long as you have the funds in your Paypal, it's taken from that. If you go over, you have a backup funding option set up and it dips into that. See my earlier post in this thread about the only problem I've experienced with them in 11 years.
The debit card is the way to go. Get cash back at stores and don't pay a fee. Have access to your money right away. I get over 2000.00 a month from about 20 different companies and can access it right away.
CRI takes a 3% with max of $1.50, so with a $10 payment CRI will deposit 9.70 in your paypal account.
I would rather be paid by Paypal than check. Paypal want bounce and payment is faster than with a paycheck.
I have had a PayPal account for years. I also have the Debit card. I love getting paid that way. I can use the card just like any debit card. Swipe it, get cash back if you need to and go on your way. I use it at Amazon or EBay. It is just a regular debit card.
CRI doesn't have to do it that way, the cheapskates. It's all in how payments are set up and how they're described by the sender. It doesn't surprise me that they do this, however. People should complain.
I have used a debit card with PayPal for many years. Ron's money is easily transferred into my account and I can pay bills buy groceries or withdraw cash from any ATM.

I have never had issues with using Paypal and much prefer it to paper checks! With Paypal there is no trip to the bank, no worries about getting the check stolen from the mail, nothing to arrange if you'll be on vacation the last week of the month...
PayPal's mobile apps for Android, iPhone and Blackberry now offer uploading money to your account by taking a photo of a paper check.

Chase Bank has been doing this for a while and it's a wonderful thing.

PayPal does say it can take up to 6 days for the money to be available in your account since they use an outside check verification system. I wrote and asked about the timeframe and the rep said it's all new to them and they hope to get it whittled down so it's more competitive.

The apps look at the photos of the check and use OCR (optical character recognition) to pull the routing number, account number and dollar amount of the check. It's pretty slick how these apps work.

It's great being able to deposit the little piddly $4 and $5 checks on the fly; anything that saves me extra trips to a bank and lets me have my money available with less hassle is a plus in my book.
