FIVE GUYS IS BACK!!

I checked with schedulers in the past. They notified me that I MUST order burger or hot dog, etc. with bun only.

I always get a burger in a bowl. It asks on the form what you got and I mark in a bowl. I have never had a problem.

I almost always get a little burger in a bowl, but change it up every once in awhile.

Why would a scheduler tell a shopper they have to order a burger or a dog in a bun? The bowl option is right there on the form, and there's no restriction on the kind of sandwich you can order!

I literally order the veggie sandwich almost always unless I’m craving the burger. Some locations, even the veggie sandwich meal is $13+ depending on the location due to higher costs.

In the end, going over reimbursement doesn’t matter much, since I continuously push for $25+ minimum fees, no matter what.

Very infrequently shopping the Greater Denver Area, Colorado Springs and in-between in Colorado these days.
I no longer shop for the MSC that has Five Guys... but the main reason I personally quit doing them is that I wound up with too many french fries and I would usually wind up throwing some away. To me, the reimbursement limit was never an issue, but the last time I remember doing these at least it was reasonable.

Anyway... this talk of ordering a veggie sandwich to stay under the reimbursement reminds me of shoppers ordering one or two tacos on the Chipotle shops to maximize profits. That's something almost nobody does (or at least did, from when the program were active). Indeed, it would not surprise me one bit if the veggie sandwich order was the clue that this Five Guys location needed to win "guess the mystery shopper".

If we didn't have ridiculously low reimbursement limits (either explicitly, or as part of the total pay), this wouldn't even be an issue. That's what bothers me the most.
Great points Squash!

I only eat the fries in the cup. The rest get trashed.

I think the $12.75 is their fixed cost and anything over that is profit.

When I was on a mystery shop, one person in a group in front of me ordered a veggie sandwich.

I don't mind paying under a dollar over reimbursement to get the little cheeseburger and a large drink. It is usually really good. I am pretty cheap so I would never pay over $13.00 for a fry, drink and cheeseburger. I get a pretty good meal and get paid to do it. Shops hardly ever get bonused where I live, they get snapped up pretty quick.
meh i don’t think ordering salmon anywhere is weird. it’s a lot different though if you go to five guys alone and order a veggie bowl. its like why in the world would anyone seek out five guys to order a veggie bowl? surely anyone who is a vegetarian would know 1,000,000 better options. maybe if you’re with someone it doesn’t seem strange because you’re just going where they wanted to go.

I chuckled at this I live on the seacoast where there are a lot of good seafood restaurants. I go to the Texas Roadhouse and order salmon.

I would imagine getting a burgerless burger would out you as a shopper though. That can't be a typical order.

Why would it out you? I get it cause I don't eat a lot of carbs.

I get a burger without the bun. I was referring to getting no burger and just lettuce and other vegetables.

Sorry I read bunless burger. I agree about the burgerless burger outing someone.
I think 5G crew members see so many people that we don’t get outed in the moment. We may be outed because of video surveillance but not because of our order.
I don't see how ordering a veggie anything at 5 Guys would out someone as a shopper. Their grilled cheese all the way was one of my go to's even before I started shopping them.
FWIW I think that the hot dog is slightly less costly than a little burger but I think that prices seem to vary according to the location of the restaurant.

It's $14.60 by us for a little burger, small drink, and small fries.

Where's the jaw drop emoji when you need it?

I posted this in another thread but in case you or others didn't see it.

I eat only a few fries and take the rest home and freeze them. I reheat a few at a time in my toaster oven and they taste great. Good supplement to my meal, even breakfast!

Great idea taking them home. I eat some and toss the rest. I may start taking them home.
They wouldn't make it on the car ride home.

So you trash them. Are you saying you couldn’t bring the leftovers home without eating them in the car. I’m confused!
I eat a cup of fries and trash the rest in the restaurant. I love good fries beyond words. If I tried to bring them home for leftovers, they would evaporate in my car.

Try switching your fee and reimbursement. You get a fee of $12.75 and are reimbursed, say, $18 for your meal. This way, you can order what you want.

@Insight wrote:

The last two 5 guys I did cost me $13.46 and I do not want ta shop to cost me money even though it pays a fee.

If anyone really cared enough, you could write off the non-reimbursable part as a business expense and take the deduction.
Reminds me of when I was young....I would go to Dunkin Donuts and get a dozen (back when they baked/fried them on site) and they would "evaporate" on the way home....more than once I had to return and get a second dozen to obfuscate the fact I ate a whole dozen myself....

I save the leftover fries, cut them up, and make home fries out of them to scramble up with eggs. And my husband will just eat them re-heated. No wasted fries in our house! It does take some willpower not to go overboard when I'm at the location doing the shop.

Shopping Southeast Pennsylvania, Delaware above the canal, and South Jersey since 2008
I so admire your restraint!

The first and last time I took fries home to make poutine, there were none left by the time I pulled into my community. Mind you, the restaurant was in the same zip code.

I ordered burgers lettuce wrap, no problems with approval.

I've started shopping Five Guys again. There are a handful of locations that get bonused in my area, ranging from $18 to $29 from what I've seen. I've been ordering a hot dog, little fries and regular drink. I go over reimbursement about fifty cents and take the hot dog, minus a nibble, home to my husband. I've started adding value by also ordering grilled veggies, requesting them on the side. There's no charge for those, as toppings are unlimited. I get a good-sized portion of green peppers, mushrooms and onions which goes home with me and gets added to scrambled eggs or brown rice. Yum.

I am trying to lose weight and ordered the burger in a bowl. Has anyone ever ordered the veggies in a bowl??
If you are trying to lose weight, don't take FF shops at all. Even the so-called "healthy" options are crap. You could save more money than you would ever make on a FF shop by improving your health, ending the need for meds and cutting back on medical visits/hospital stays. :-)

Losing weight is calories in - calories out.

Limit the fries (1 cup is ~150-200 calories), and eat a veggie sandwich (~320 calories without cheese and Mayo), and drink a zero calorie drink.

You’ll be fine, given you watch your caloric intake.

Gene, It was irresponsible of the scheduler to advise you of her interpretation of the guidelines. The MSC’s written guidelines always prevail over verbal communication from a scheduler.

The scheduler said: YES
Exactly. Early in my mystery shopping I got some REALLY bad advice from a scheduler that would have invalidated one of my shops. Luckily I asked the Help Desk.

Definitely the case here on Long Island. Prices vary wildly. There's a beach resort town in my rotation where if i order a burger I'd better be ready to pay almost $16. There are other locations where the "preferred" burger setup doesn't even get me close to $12.75
