Makeup at Chanel counter

I got a Chanel shop scheduled but am now confused by the instructions. It says approach the counter and say that you want your makeup done. But I found online that makeup application is only free with a purchase. So if I don't want to purchase anything can they charge me for the application?

I would call the store and ask if they do any makeup applications for free so you can decide if you want to purchase. I did them with a MSC that is no longer in business, and at Dillard's, the Chanel guy did the application for free (and I ended up buying stuff because I love their products, though it wasn't required for the shop). That was a few years back, but I think it's pretty SOP for cosmetic counters to apply makeup to help customers choose the right products. Call them and ask, it won't sound suspicious and don't give your name or make an appointment.

I did them for years,with NSS (miss them) and got free makeovers without a purchase, also many free samples.
I would think the Saleslady should tell you before starting, as they cannot make you buy anything, just say "Sorry,
I didn't know". I remember, I would many times just get the creme put on, not a full makeover.

Yeah, I did them with the same MSC. Even though they are no longer in business I wasn't sure if I was allowed to name them given how this forum is pretty strict on that sorta stuff.

I did them for different stores which I didn't name, but the new MSC has totally different rules. Being the new MSC wasn't named, I think I'm safe.

I understand what you are saying. I was referring to the defunct MSC, not the new ones. I don't personally have a problem with naming out of business MSCs and linking them to the client (the client is Chanel, not the stores), just merely pointing out that the forum can be strict on rules sometimes. I doubt anyone will report it.

Do the instructions say you need to accept the makeup session? Perhaps you just need to ask about it and are allowed to say no if there is a purchase requirement. I never did any of these shops but I did take my daughter to get a "free" makeup for her grad night party. At the time all the counters required a purchase although they did not care what it was and could be their least expensive item.

But sometimes the least expensive item is $18.

I do Channel through two different MSC's but not for having makeup done. I've seen this job but don't remember the MSC. It didn't seem worth the $ when I looked at them and was concerned about the issue brought up by liberty571. I agree, around here if you ask for your makeup done at most places they say they want you to pay for it, if they suggest doing your makeup then it's free.

The shop pays $10 near me, not worth it.

I have done these shops and if you are shopping for skin care products or foundation, just go to the counter and ask about their products, tell them your skin is changing and you are wondering what would be best for you. At that point they should ask you to sit down and they will apply products. Most of those folks love to do make overs on the spot, because they know it could lead to sales, which is great for them! And just so you know, when doing these shops, make sure you have them write down or you make a note of it in your phone of the exact name of every product and if foundation - not only the specific name, but also the color. It doesn't say that in the instructions (or at least it didn't the last time I did these shops). The worst part several months ago was some were targeted shops, but you could not ask for that person. They sent a picture of the person I was supposed to target - but it was an old pic. She went from long dark hair to very short blond hair. Had to wait 30 minutes before I could approach the counter waiting for the long dark haired advisor. LOL A day in the life of a mystery shopper. I believe you are supposed to ask for samples now - we used to not be able to do that. Much good luck

I used to do them for 20.00, makeover and samples....would do four a day, two hours, one cosmetics and one dress or handbag, same store, and done with stores across the street from one another......shouldn't things be going up due to higher cost of living...
just asking as less pay, more work isn't making it!!

Yours and the OP shops arent the same. The ones you speak of, I can remember what everything suggested/ used looks like and I just pull up the full names and spellings online when I get home. Ive done 2, the last being a few days ago. I dont remember the first having a 500 character limited on all questions. Its impossible to answer all details requested in the questions with that limit.
