Love it! I've definitely seen my part time shopping business growing exponentially the last few months. I'm still learning and the author is right- learn your lessons on the $5 shops.
I think this only works in an area where there aren't a lot of shoppers willing to take the low paying shops or when the MSC/scheduler is in a time crunch. I am getting bonuses on some shops that start out low and there aren't enough people interested early in the month, but I live in a high-shopper volume area. Those $5-$12 fast food shops get snatched up fairly quickly.
Obviously, turning in quality reports and following guidelines carefully are going to get a shopper more and better offers. I still wonder if it's worth it to get certified by MSPA. Most people on this forum have said being certified by MSPA has made no difference in the type of shops and pay offered them, but a few said becoming certified had gotten them better paying work.

I really enjoyed the article and appreciate the author for sharing! I learned early on in my career (I started MSing a year ago) that reliability and providing accurate, well written reports in a timely manner are essential in this business. I am receiving more and more calls and emails from schedulers every month.
I also think that becoming certified certainly does not hurt. It is easy to become certified and it doesn't take much time to do so. Just my two cents worth....

I think "paying your dues" certainly is necessary. It takes a while, but if you are reliable and do a good job with your reports, you get the calls for the better shops. I'm willing to try a new shop at a lower pay to see how the shop goes but then I adjust what I'm willing to do the shop for once I see how the shop works and what the report is like. I did a first time shop yesterday, for a company I hesitate to work for based on reports here and from friends that shop, but they called me and gave me a bonus. The shop wasn't bad and something that could be done in a reasonable amount of time. The report had a lot of narrative however and now, based on the time involved, I won't take those shops for less than double what I got yesterday....IF I actually get paid--which is a complaint I've heard about this company.
There are just some shops I won't take....cough, cough...PJ's..... and others that they would have to pay big bucks for me to take....most fast food shops....and since they don't hang around long enough..I don't take them.

RIMS- after experience with PJ's I can say definitely avoid them. I don't do most faast food either. I shop a lot like you do, I'll pretty much try anything once and get a feel for the amount of work and how much I would want to do it in the future. I am curious what company you're talking about from yesterday with the first time shop and wondering if you'll get paid. Care to share? You didn't say the client so....LOL. Just wondering as I sit here and stare at my Excel spreadsheet of shops and see all the shops over 75 days I haven't been paid on yet if it's one of my regular companies!

Can anyone tell me the name of that SHOP APP that records and keeps time?? It was being discussed the other day. They said one of the shoppers invented it?? I can't find it now and I want to buy it in the App Store Please reply ASAP. Thanks, Babycakes
Shop It - I use it all the time. Occasionally if I am using the speaking option it will close on me but it is great for timing.
