New Five Guys shop

I went with a modified question to get an answer. It's basic psychology--if you say "you guys open for lunch?" the person is almost certainly going to tell you what time they opened because that information is more concrete. You can test it yourself by calling any pizza shop in your area and slightly misquoting a special while not being, strictly, incorrect--"You guys have the ten-dollar medium on Wednesdays?" "Yes, ma'am, on Wednesdays after 3pm all one-topping medium pizzas are $9.99." It works every time. (Unless the employee is a dick. In which case, it's good information to have anyway.)

The website lists my receipt as verified and QC/helpdesk haven't contacted me, so we'll see how this goes.

Nina--Good luck! I'll bet it's all okay. I asked the address for mine and the manager gave me landmarks. She said that she didn't know the store number, just the street.

Flash--No matter what your age, you can be in a hurry! It worked for me and I would have no problem doing that again. Like I said in a previous post, everyone in the place looked suspicious like a mystery shopper, anyway!

Flash, another option might be to casually mention your next errand. "Didn't want to stop in after I got the grandkids. Their mother thinks I spoil them too much as it is." There are plenty of reasons to not want to wait, including the fact that a seven-minute wait is very long for a burger and fries.

Good gawd how old are you people? LMAO My mom retired from the restaurant business at 78.

Anyway, there may be lots of reasons to order ahead. It's not like they need to know why. We all have stuff to do. They now have an app for that too - where you order ahead on your smart phone. It doesn't matter if you intend to pick it up or eat there. Nobody's business anyway.

Yep, just like asking for a name. If you make up convoluted reasons you stick out more than if you just get your food and eat.

Nevertheless I won't be ordering ahead and then dining in. Maybe there are situations that would justify it, I'm just not willing to test my luck with it and find myself banned from the shops for another couple of years.
I think the bottom line is: do what you feel comfortable doing. We're all different. It's weird for me to ask for a receipt since I normally turn them down when offered. Others ask for receipts all the time so it feels natural. For me, ordering ahead would not seem odd at all. For others, it's totally out of their comfort zone.

I think it is because deep down, we are all honest people. When we say or do something that is contrary to our own typical words and actions, it feels like a lie. A lie makes us feel uncomfortable, conspicuous and paranoid. It's just human nature for all of us who are NOT sociopaths. So, we either choose a different shop or struggle through it.

Absolutely right. Like the green grocery stores. Sorry, I just don't feel comfortable asking the canned meat/seafood dept questions so I refuse to do the shop. They're super easy and nobody in my area takes them so they're usually bonused. I don't feel comfortable though.

I haven't done Five Guys in a while, and don't know if the call ahead or internet scenarios are even in my area. Do they require us to ask for it To Go?

I was banned, not from the client, just one location. Then, was reinstated a year or so later. Don't know why, but I'm with Flash. Once burned, twice shy.

Nah, I'm just an actor. In the last eight months or so I've played a divorcee from the 1950s, a (male) ghost, a nun, a paid lady (in the same show, natch), and a self-absorbed businesswoman. That's not counting the role I auditioned for and didn't get as a mercenary.

Mert, you may have been spotted as the shopper. I have a couple of locations on McD's I can't do because they figured out it was me.
I assumed that ninamason. I just no longer saw the one location; however, other shoppers have been bounced from the client. Method to madness, but I can only assume.

QUestion: How do you know if you have been spotted as the shopper and subsequently banned from the job? Do the jobs just stop appearing on your board? Or does the MSC inform you?
I had 5 shops scheduled for the client and was kicking myself because I SHOULD have waited for my birthday email to get the $2 bonus on each of them. The next day I went in to see if there was anything new and my shops were all gone. I contacted the Help Desk and they told me they could not tell me why, but I was no longer allowed to shop the client. About 6 months later when I was talking with a more helpful Help Desk person about an unrelated matter I asked what had happened and was told that I had been identified as the shopper but she had no further information about where or how. I asked when that ban might be lifted and was told 'Never, unfortunately.' Thus it was a huge surprise a few months ago to see the shops back on my job board.
Anyone doing these (5Guys) shops, may be doing it wrong with calling your order in.!! I've done several and the guidelines (instructions) have always been to call to confirm their operating hours...not put in an order.!!?
Outside of lunch the scenario marks you as the shopper. Their employees actively look for the shopper. I imagine managers will let staff know what the new scenario is.

BEWARE RICOLA!!! Some of the new shops DO require you call in and place your order, set a time for pickup and THEN spend 15 min eating your meal in the place. Yes, there are still the call ahead to confirm operating hours that are the old standbys to place your order while you are there and eat in.
I often call ahead and then eat in. I hate waiting for food to be prepared. I never had a problem waiting while they cooked the food. Since the napkins, ketchup, peanuts, etc are close by, I used the time to slowly grab napkins, condiments, etc. The part I never liked was waiting to be asked if I wanted a beverage. It became a staring contest which was quite uncomfortable.
Isn't simply placing your order by phone or Internet at 5 Guys something new? don't recall they took orders that way in the past. Also as far as I can recall 5 guys packages your order in a bag regardless of whether you have it to go or eat in, in fact I don't recall them even asking if your order was to go or not.
I never called to check hours or location. I did them so often it seemed a mute point. I always checked no for the did you call ahead part. They never dinged me for that.
Just make sure that you look at your instructions to see which kind of shop you got. Some of them have a clue in the red lettering on the job board but not all. I have now turned back a couple that are the call in an order variety that I took with no clue which type they were.
Bena ~ I know, huh? I swear they were onto me one time in particular, when the staring contest went uncomfortably long, and the dude had this sly smile before *finally* asking! smiling smiley

imagator ~ yeah, the stuff is *always* put in a bag regardless. At the Five Guys around here, I've seen the signs for ordering online for some time now ~ a year or two at least.

when u walk in and order here, the norm is like 9 min.. that's a long time if ur on a lunch hr
I completed one of these shops and it wasn't awkward. Calling ahead saves time during the busy lunch hours and anyone can change their mind and eat-in no matter what they said on the phone.

Look at the opposite side of this one- you did the shop the new way. Once... Let's see IF they repeat shoppers for it. Too early to tell. I know this shop IS video taped. So when you pay it is easy for them to find you on video. I KNOW they review the tapes..... You just made it far easier for them to find you. The last time I ordered they said hmm last time you had pickles no pickles today? Which was true....
Canadamommy, I work at a theatre near the location, so they see me at non-shop times too. I actually considered calling in an order today. So perhaps not so easy to find me!

I wore a hat and didn't take my sunglasses off during my shop. I'll be sure to take the hat off next time. Thanks for the tip.
