Forum Updates!

Hello! Everyone! We had to migrate to a new server, which also required updating much of the software. This, unfortunately, may have caused some issues, in terms of things not working right. The good news, at least, is that the server is significantly faster.

I'll be working on fixing problems over the next few weeks. If you find any issues, please let me know in this post, and I'll look into it!

Hi, Jacob. Thanks for the updates. We appreciate everything you do here.

Could you explain what the "thumbs down" button is for, please? If it's ticked a certain number of times, does that trigger you and the Mods to look at a post? I'm just curious since the button magically appeared out of nowhere.

The following errors show up when I click to read any post:

@drdoggie00 -- I believe I fixed the errors you mentioned, but I'm not 100% sure. Can you check again, and see if it's still there? It's very possible there's more errors as well. Thank you!

No, I'm still getting them. I can read and post as normal if I scroll beyond the error messages at the top of the screen.

OK -- I went ahead and had to disable the "updates" feature for now. This will take more time than I thought to figure out this particular bug. Hopefully I'll be able to figure it out within the next week. In the meantime, let me know if you find any other issues!

Okay, thank you, Jacob. We appreciate you and all your hard work. smiling smiley

You never did explain about the "thumbs down" button. What happens if it's selected on a post? Is there a number limit before something happens? Inquiring minds want to know...thanks!
Honestly -- I forget what happens! Though, I'm pretty sure that if enough people press the thumbs down button, it gets hidden and flagged for review. It's only available to certain members though, to prevent it from getting abused. It's mostly a way to quickly deal with trolls.
Not an issue, but just wanted to say after clicking "Reply", it's been going through much faster than before. Before, sometimes you would have to wait for a the blue bubble about Posting Guidelines to show up, to know it's safe to click "Reply" again, without double posting.
I have no thumbs down. I guess I am considered a troll. Whatever.

I cannot access the forums from my computer. It acts as if it is trying to download a file whenever I click on the search link or type it into my address bar. I have tried different browsers, deleted by cache, etc. I have no issues accessing it through my phone.

There is the truth.
Then there is the right thing to say.

I had that happen too. It resolved itself for me. I don't know if this will help, but you can try re-logging in or resetting your password.
The "updates" notice missing. The one that alerts the user to new activity, likes and replies in a thread where they've been active.
Ever since the change, I have been unable to access on my phone. It says Forbidden - You don't have permission to access this resource. Additionally, a 403 forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an error document to handle the request.

I don't know how to fix this. I have tried a few things. I can access it on my second phone, on my computer, even on my work computer but not my primary phone.

At first I was able to access on one of my phones but now I am unable to access on either phone. For now, I can only access on my laptop but that is not always with me of course.
Yes. The "Updates" feature does not seem to work anymore.

I have no problem accessing the Forum on my Samsung Galaxy S24.

I have the exact same phone. Only happened after the server upgrade. I can't figure it out.

Per one of JacobJ's earlier posts, he temporarily disabled the "updates" function.

I recently had that happen on both my desktop (Windows, Chrome) and phone (iPhone, Chrome). Not sure if this will work for you, but deleting cookies for this specific website resolved it for me.
Also, I noticed both times it occurred, it was because I was performing too many actions in succession within a short period of time. For example, quickly editing a post right after I had just posted.

This actually worked! I have an android but there was another page information tab I didn't see before and I was able to delete the cookies and site data for just this forum and then it worked. Thank you!
Glad I found this page today as I have been just sending messages directly to Jacob.
But I too do not get the red update flags any longer. Please update here when it gets fixed so if it still does not work for us we can let you know. Jacob you do a wonderful job.
