Follow discussion without posting reply?

I know we can request to receive email updates when new posts are made in a topic, but didn't there used to be a way to follow a discussion without first posting a reply to it? Sometimes I would like to receive notifications before I jump in and make a comment in a thread.

You still can (without replying, that is) To the right is a blue box with the options reply and follow topic. You don't need to reply if you want to follow the topic.

I use Dolphin, Chrome or Firefox browser on a Samsung Note 3 or a Tab 2 7", depending on mah mood. LOL

No skateboards...Gave it up for lent one year and never did get back on.

Speaking of mobile...It would be awesome if a mobile-friendly layout was available.
