Contactless Credit card

Hello.
I'm new to mystery shopping.
Can anyone tell me what mobile pay is or contactless credit card?

I don't do those types of shops, but I am guessing you connect your phone to your credit card so you don't use the actual card when you checkout. You pay with your smartphone. I don't know anything more than that, since I don't have mobile pay setup on my phone.

I just received a 'contactless' credit card on my existing Discover account. The instructions are that when you see the little radio signal on the card reader at the casher you 'tap' the card on the reader. I have not tried it, but it strikes me as a little risky. Sure, my card info won't be stolen by a skimmer in the card reader but may be intercepted by anyone standing too close to me. I have not done or looked at a shop requiring this technology.

Contactless cards/Mobile Pay uses NFC, a short radio wavelength. The maximum range is 4 centimeters. It's unlikely someone would be able to get that close to you for your credit card info to be stolen.

Try it when you're not on a shop. That way you'll know how well it works. I've found the cards to be troublesome, working sometimes/some places and not working others. As for the phone, many phones don't have NFC. Again, try it before you take a job.

This is based on NFC technology. The maximum read range is about 2-3 inches from the card. Anyone that close to you won't go unnoticed, I suspect.

I set up Google Pay on my phone in order to do Contactless payment shops. It works well most of the time. I get paid either way. It is linked to one of my credit cards. The great thing is that my bank creates a virtual credit card number fo the app, and never transmits the actual credit card number. Since no physical card is present, it can't be stolen. the app immediately records each transaction for me to look at. Sevveral bankers have told me that using Google Pay is the safest way to pay.

Then use Apple Pay or Samsung Pay if you are concerned about Google.

I love using the contactless card because it's usually faster and you don't have to pay attention to the REMOVE CARD/DO NOT REMOVE CARD that you have to with the chip. I've had it on my PayPal card for almost a year and haven't had a problem with it. Also, like @myst4au said with google pay, you have a different card number for each transaction and that will only be able to be used once.

I prefer using contactless payments because of the security. I have Samsung Pay and do the shops whenever I can find them.
