Merchandising Garden Seed Packets...

Does anyone know how I can hook up with a garden seed company looking for a merchandiser in the Central Maryland area? I have been interested in doing this for several years with a company like Burpee or Ferry Morse, etc. who does the seasonal displays in most of the big box stores.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it!

I know how the janitors use to hit the Seed-Tree wire racks with their floor buffers knocking them over and putting them in a box for the rep who filled them! It happened so often the company pulled all the huge margin seed trees from that store!

I don't know why the need to label the "illegal immigrants" rather than just saying the janitors...
Burpee reps do Burpee at the home improvement stores. I asked today while I was there.

I'd guess racism is the prime motivator with, perhaps, a little ignorance thrown in.

I hate this obsession with "illegal" immigrants that puts all immigrants and even natural born citizens in danger because how many really know the status of anyone they see or speak to. I also heard an interesting factoid the other night. The fastest growing segment of undocumented aliens is from Asia, not from Mexico or any Central American country.

My Grandpa was an illegal alien from Poland. It was annexed as a part of Russia at the time. Escaped from the early Russian revolution. They burned down his village and killed everyone they found, men, women and children. It was the proudest day of his life when he became an American citizen. He never identified himself as Polish-American. He was an American.

It seems as if there are smaller regional companies that handle the garden center and seed business. Check out indeed.com those type of postings should start happening any time now (if they haven't already hit)
There is a ton of garden merchandiser work right now, but it is usually for working with the plants a few days a week. Some are even full time for the season. You travel from store to store watering, unloading, general upkeep of the plants. Also, the lawn fertilizer people are hiring now. Scotts, Central, etc. Big box store merchandising, LOTS of heavy lifting, setting up bags of seed, and fertilizer.
You will also get dirtier merchandising there, so not easy to do anything else that day.

Oh, don't use description at all. Just say stick person comes through and hits seed rack.....another stick person picks up. Just saying. ha!
He was called out on his assumption the immigrants were undocumented. Unless he knew it to be fact, it was unfair.

Illegal or legal I find an issue with ALL Lowe's signs in stores now bilingual. English IS the language of the country. Move here via whatever means learn the language. Yes I have been overseas and that is not the norm.
First, not everyone here legally is here to stay. Second, there is nothing wrong with making someone's life easier while they are learning the language. Interesting someone with the handle Canadamommy would be so xenophobic.

In the United States the language IS ENGLISH. I personally know NO parts of Canada that have Spanish as a national Language Miss Lisa. Maybe you are telling us YOU are not here to stay? Moving out of the country soon Miss Lisa?

Hard day, CandaMommy? Hope tomorrow is a happier one.
I think that's as happy as it gets.

And BTW CM, if my people hadn't tied up your people's boats, you wouldn't be on this continent.

Oh! boo-Hoo you sound like a bunch of millennials complaining about someone spray painting TRUMP 2016 on a sidewalk in college. I've been hurt because I saw something ugly and it offended me I might need counseling. Oh crap, a security guard is carrying his firearm while at lunch and I saw him and now I am upset.
Boy did this thread get way off topic.
msimon - look for these same companies to have the seed packets removed in mid July.

I lived in Germany and Japan. Good luck finding any signs in English. And why should they? They shouldn't. Their first language isn't English. It should be the same here. I'm in San Antonio, TX and many times I feel like I'm in Mexico. So many times I get old Mexican ladies asking me if I speak Spanish. I say, "No. I speak English. This is America."

fun fact: America has no official language. On top of that, English is one of the harder languages to learn. Why be so upset over something that doesn't even affect you? You still know what the sign says, get over yourself. smiling smiley
Around 50% of Europeans are bilingual and quite a few are multi-lingual which makes it easier on visitors/tourists from other countries. If those "Mexican old ladies" are here visiting, you certainly provided a warm welcome and lovely impression of the U.S.

A lot of people I know have visited a variety of countries around the world. None has ever been told, "This is (insert country here), speak (insert language here. Maybe you shouldn't make assumptions about someone just because their skin is darker and they originated in another country. Those women were obviously someone's mother and grandmother. How would you like someone to speak to your mother or grandmother that way?
