Acosta?

I have run across two different job listings this morning from Acosta, where you are actually assigned permanently to a particular store. ( two different types of stores) One is for 37.5 hours a week, another is 24 to 28 hours a week. From the described duties, it sounds like you are working wherever and whatever shift the store wants you to, grocery, electronics, softlines, HBA, whatever. I guess I am puzzled why I wouldn't just go to the store and become an employee there? Both of these stores are currently hiring. Anyone have any insight? Are they paying more than the store? Anyone doing this? What, if any, is the advantage to a merchandiser? Just curious.

I am guessing you will make significantly more than a store employee. I don't know what the advantage to the store would be, other than they can rely on your merchandising expertise that a store employee may not (but should) have.
Don't do it.
I worked for the Pet Firm which was acquired by Acosta last November.
Yesterday I got an email from my area supervisor telling me I had to listen to a phone meeting during 1 of 3 times today.

Called in and there were literally hundreds of us on the call. The person read from a prepared script and fired us all.

Acosta isn't a classy company at all.

My phone was on mute when the bomb dropped but one woman screamed F**k You! Several others chimed soon afterwards. I nearly fell off my chair laughing.

How tactless. A new low for corporate America.

To add to it - I just got an email from the demo side of the house. Every month or so they ask if we would give out coupons at pet adoption events (paid job).

The woman in charge told me there were position changes and the new scheduler would be someone else for the February event. (reading through the lines I realized she got fired too)

I responded since I just got fired from the parent company I wouldn't be doing this event. (and wished her luck on finding a new job)

Apparently they are dumping everyone from the original company.

I just checked on Indeed and they posted a ton of openings in this area yesterday. It's for 1 day a month, and you have to have tools. You just have to wonder what the logic was behind a total flush of all the experienced help.
My job with them was once a month in 7 stores. (no tools needed) I would go to each store and do 1.5 - 2.5 hrs for a handful of manufacturers. It was an easy 2 or 3 day a month gig that would net me $175 - $300 monthly. I wonder if they are dropping the rate for the new workers. They used to pay $15/hr.

I do work for ASM and MCG and have been on some reset teams with Acosta people who are older (late 60s early 70s) and I know that they rely on their paychecks. Their age enhanced their performances and didn't slow them down, and I imagine the merchandising work was keeping them in shape, keeping their minds sharp, and keeping food on the table. I don't know what they will do if they get fired. How awful.
Spicy,

The mass firing yesterday was for the employees of TPFS which was swallowed up by Acosta last fall.

I spoke to an Acosta person that was not part of the Pet Firm purge. She has been a Target only person for 4 years. As of the 7th, she will be a Grocery store only person, in an entirely different area. She said they have been all moved to new, much larger territories. She will now only be in grocery stores. She is one of the older workers, 2 years from full retirement and needs to work, but will probably quit as the new territory includes some really dicey neighborhoods. The company is not entertaining any questions apparently, she has called looking for answers, and no one calls back. She was cut from 36 hours per week to 24.
Nothing in my area, but funny fact they own Mosaic a company I`ve been trying to get into for 10 years.
Yeah? I did some demo work for Mosaic about 10 years ago. It involved demonstrating a karaoke microphone in Sam's Club. I was one of the lucky ones who got MOST of my money, but many other demonstrators did not get paid at all.
I have worked for Acosta for about 5 1/2 years. There are a lot of different types of jobs. I have gone through a few supervisors and my work has shifted territories but have not heard of anyone that I have worked with that was let go.

Acosta is responsible for a portion of the grocery homestore work. If any of the positions are listed as "Mandate" that would be a homestore rep position where you would be assigned a store and responsible for all the scheduled resets in the store.
An "Impact" rep is more project work which could include some resets.
There are also other positions that are Walmart dedicated, or assigned to a roster of grocery stores. There are 2 or 3 reps assigned to the local Walmart for different teams.
What are the titles of the jobs that you found?
I can't find Acosta on the big list. Would somebody post the web site to sign up with them?
Thanks!
Someone wants to work for a company that bought a itty bitty tinee weenie merchandising company and fired all of it's employees; probably because most of them have 30 years of experience and are above 50 years old? That's (profanity removed) Awesome!

Ahhh, I missed the conference call so I just learned of my termination today via mail. It stated 'Due to business reasons, we are forced to eliminate your current position.' At least it was only 2-3 hours a month, but what an awful way for a company to do business!
The phone call lasted all of 5 minutes. What was in the letter was what was stated in the call. I love the list of benefits they added to the letter we don't qualify for.

Im so excited. I HATED my new boss, and even though 2 recruiters have called and asked me if I would like another job with them, I declined. I worked for TPF for 3 years. I called each and every one of my 21 pet stores and told them exactly what Acosta did and how they did it. I also told them that the employees they are getting now do not or may not have any pet experience, and I am sorry they will have to go through this. Many of my stores were ticked off, and I gave them all of them the contact info for Acosta thatI had , in case theyd like to express their opinions. Heehee.

Hi there. Instead of posting on many threads, it would be better imho if you posted on the jobs page.
Thanks @TeriW ! I did but I thought it would be beneficial to others to learn from my experience and for me to see if I can help smiling smiley It helped me to learn from other people's experiences and discuss my options, so I am hoping to spread the love smiling smiley

To add to what she said, it is customary to identify yourself, your position and contact information. Most company representatives add it via their signature lines which are visible in each post. Because of the nature of your posts and the unrelated threads, it can be confusing as to whether you are a legitimate independent contractor giving a review or an employee.
