The Instore Group FYI

Maybe others have noticed this before. Since I just saw it in an email today, I thought it worth mentioning. I would question the legality of holding invoices for unrelated assignments.

"Did you know that if you are asked to supply a corrected photo or missing information on a report you have submitted that your invoices are placed on hold? This means all invoices are held - not just the one that needs correcting."

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

They may make the rules, but they do not write the laws. I find it hard to believe it would be legal to withhold payment for unrelated work.

I agree with you 100%, however, what would it cost you to fight them over it? My guess is more than the total amounts due, not to mention the time and effort. That is why they can get away with it.

Think about it this way as well. What is minimum wage in the US (as an average anyway)? Now look at you $6 shops and how much time you have to prepare, commute, spend time there, write the report. Lets just say it is 2 hours ( and you must count all time spent), that is a rocking $3/hour. They can get away with breaking the law on that by making all shoppers IC's. Now, they can violate labor laws and get away with it because we are allowing them to do so.

Fixing issues like this or trying to get changes in process cost time and effort which most people are unwilling to give the effort needed to make changes, for various reasons.
My two hour $6 shops? You must have me mixed up with someone else.

It wouldn't cost anyone anything to fight an illegal provision. Just make the proper authorities aware. As someone who does not do merchandising gigs and has only performed one assignment for the company, it doesn't impact me. I wanted others to be aware. Merchandisers doing quite a bit of work for any one company could end up with hundreds of dollars delayed.

One of my companies will hold payment for the specific job if phots of it are missing, but it does pay for all the others that are completed. It is a W2 position, so I seem to have less hassles. With the I.C. companies, they seem to run by some made up rule book, like double top secret added requirements. After the job is done, NOW they ask for all kind of weird things that you would never have looked at in the store. Example- I was doing a DVD reset, I printed out both the procedures and the report that morning so I would have both and could fill it out while at the store as there were several steps to the service, and, I didn't want to miss anything as it was over an hour drive one way. When I started entering the report at home, ugly surprise, there were 5 added questions that were not there that morning, and had nothing to do with the department I was working in. The questions were about types and amounts of gift cards at the check outs. I called the store to get the answers and decided that my time as a IC was at an end. I have bad knees and just can't/won't jump through hoops anymore to make a buck.
