As I've merchandised more than once I've been asked, "Where is X, can you help me with Y?" and I usually I smile, say I don't work for store X, and tell them how to find an employee.
Well yesterday a customer asked me to help him with something, and I was ready to give him my pre-canned response when I asked him what about. He wanted to know where the product I was merchandising was. I just smiled, and pointed straight ahead.
