Merchandising Job Boards

Does anybody know of a job board that lists IC merchandising jobs? So far all I can find are lists of companies that hire permanent part-time positions. I'm looking for temp assignments, like what you'd see offered on Cerified. Is there such a site?

Yes, I googled merchandising job boards but I get results like Simply Hired or retail gigs. The results are more like permanent merchandising jobs. I was hoping for something like a mystery shop job board, where you could take an assignment as it fit into your schedule.

Basically temp work for merchandising. Haven't actually done any work through them yet though, so I can't tell you if they're any good or not personally.

yeah sasr has a load in the ohio area... they seem to want long hours though eight to ten... sometimes travel crews for weeks at a time...

castforce is good too... www.castforce.com... much easier than the purple portal and much higher pay...

watch out for NARMS they dont vet the people they post for... i ran into some issues with them over a group called wonder marketing... total scam... NARMS told me to contact my attorny's general office... ha... really bad taste in my mouth... if you want to go through them ask around about the specific company they are setting you up with first... but it was enough for me to wash my hands of them...

I do not think you understood the concept of NARMS. They do not "set you up" with any company. Once you register, they notify you of jobs that are available in your area.

The decision of whether or not you contact that company is totally up to you. They give none of your information to anyone.

In deciding whether or not to send your personal information to a company when applying for a job, always check them out. We all must screen who gets this info. It is not a bad idea to check into a company's background with more than one source. It is much easier to check in advance than to try to rectify the problem later.

One thing you could ask the company if and when they contact you is, "Who has been doing this work for you in the past and why did they leave?" Sometimes they will say, sometimes not. If they do not, check with the store where you will be working. Someone there will know or if they do not they will usually let you check the vendor's log to find out.

When you go on NARMS, you will find a list of all merchandising companies that are listed with them. Even though they are listed here does not mean they endorse them.

Just a few suggestions of things I have run into in the past.

I've done quite a bit with SARS. I was actually asked to work for the company that hires ICs through SARS at one point and if I didn't have little kids at the time, I would've taken the job. The guys were awesome to work with. I did the labeling of the new prices and stuff like that and they did the heavy stuff. They hated my job and I loved it so it worked well. I'd pop in my headphones and be off working.

You have to be able to lift 50 or 60 pounds and I've worked with other crews for SARS where I did have to be able to lift the weights. I'd LOVE to work for SARS again as the hours would fit nicely in my off hours but after my car accident, I can't lift anything slightly heavy and I couldn't stand for eight hours, either. So I haven't applied even though the jobs are plentiful in my area and often they're begging for help. Maybe I should let them know I can work under limited conditions and they can take me or not.

You're paid as an employee with taxes withheld and I believe they pay mileage, or mileage after a certain point. The hourly can be negotiable, too, especially if they're desperate on getting help.

Always Angie -- No reason not to ask and, if they treat people as employees, they are actually required by federal law to try to make accommodations. It could be as simple as having the guys lifting the boxes and you bringing a fold-up stool to sit on while working. If they're desperate for people, I'd be they'd accommodate you.

NARMS does give out your information--if you provide it. They have a place for you to give your profile, your background information, and company schedulers have access to it.

Even though you may be an employee with some companies, they have a job board in which you can pick and request the assignment.

I'm actually a scheduler (and National Director) for a Merchandising Company.... We do most of our recruiting through ShadowShopper (we use the bronze free members - not just Gold - because that PAY FOR thing is not fair!) and we use NARMS often!

We hire ICs ONLY.... and we have different types of jobs. We have some that recur every week, biweekly, monthly - ONE TIMERS... and we have Road Shows that are usually about a 2 week event (one shot deal) that the IC rep goes in and works the display every other day for about 11 days or so.

( I also do my own mystery shopping on the side... I like going to dinner and rating everything... I do this on my private time)

I don't know if I am allowed to share the company that I work for....?

NOT TRUE. Read the contract. Certified hires only Independent Contractors. No taxes are taken out, you are on your own! All of the companies I work for are the same. BTW, does it make sense to be a small business to reduce the tax hit?

There are still some companies with project teams where you self assign. That is you only sign up for the assignments that you are interested in and/or fit in your schedule. Many use Natural Insight for reporting. Check to see if they have a client list on NI.
