New Mystery Shopper

Hello, my name is Nick. I just signed up to be a mystery shopper for a couple companies. I have my first assignment tomorrow June 6, 2022.

I’m a little nervous. The amount of questions that are on the evaluation form is a little daunting but I’m sure I’ll be able to remember if the sales person said this or that.

I have to act like I’m going to buy a queen-size mattress at a bed store, even talk about payment methods, and then back out at the last minute. They said I can create any scenario I want to do so - just be sure it’s believable. Gave me a couple of examples.

So I downloaded a fake-call app. Since I have to interact with the sales person for a minimum of 30 minutes, I was thinking I’d set the call for 35 minutes after I enter the store.

But then I thought about how many ways that could go wrong with a set timer like that so now I’m thinking I’ll ask to use the restroom at the very end, set the call for 5 minutes while in there.

I’m going to pretend my son was just in a car accident. Everyone is ok but his car is wrecked and I have to go get him and take him to work as he is already late.

Thoughts?

Too dramatic. Your goal as an evaluator is to be unmemorable. “That guy whose kid was in a car accident” is memorable. A better way out: I’ve got an online Zoom meeting I need to log in to, have to pick up my kid for a doctors appointment, picking up my sister from the airport. Think: bland, everyday, the salesperson will NOT remember your visit.
I generally just go with I appreciate the info, I'm going to think about it all. Good moment to ask their name if you haven't got it.

Just say you'll need to bring the wife in to try it before making a final decision.
