Is This Legit?

I did one of those endless question surveys and answered yes to the mystery shopper question. Then I got a text message about a week ago. Today I received a USPS Postal Money Order in a Priority Mail Envelope in the amount of $998. I'm supposed to cash it at my bank then go to Walmart Store or (Walgreens, Target, Kmart, Kroger, Best Buy, CVS Pharmacy, Alberstons). I'm supposed to buy $850 in Itunes gift cards, take pictures of the scratch off area, answer some customer service questions and keep the remaining $148 as commission. I'm not exactly sure how mystery shopping works but I thought it was one specific place you go to. At the bottom of the letter it said Intellishop Program.

Definitely not legit. It's a well known scam. The check will bounce and you'll be out the money and in trouble.

You really shouldn't have to ask. I am not being mean.

I've heard of check cashing scams. I even received one last month after I told them I wasn't interested. This is the first time I've heard about postal money orders. I guess they'll try anything to get your money.

Fake/forged money orders are a thing. They'll initially clear and then you'll be liable. Google it. You can't sign up for mystery shopping via a click survey. Real MSCs require to you to fill out individual applications for them- sometimes very extensive and may require you to submit writting samples. Also real MSCs require you to shop/audit a specific location on a specific day at a specific and most do not give you any reimbursement/money in advance (although I've seen some offer giftcards or tickets in the case of amusement parks in advance). Anything where you have to purchase giftcards with your own money and take pics of the codes/scratch off areas is obviously a scam.

Yeah, definitrly a scam. In my experience, you have to complete the job before you get paid.
