Yes.
Apartments can be a little work as they involve a fair amount of writing, but you never have to buy anything and they pay well. Bank assignments are similar. New car shops have a significant range, but can be very worthwhile. There are many "inquiry" shops that require no purchase at all. Often, your purchase is reimbursed and considered part of your compensation. However, the compensation for shops not requiring a purchase is cash. 90% of the shops I accept to not require a purchase at all.
If you are looking at mystery shopping as a pure money-maker (as opposed to a way to enjoy nicer things that you would not otherwise do or be able to afford), you can also look for shops that offer purchases that you would need to make anyhow. For instance, I am fairly certain that you eat. Whether you tend to eat out or buy groceries, you can shop such locations and have some or all of your food reimbursed. If you have a car, you likely need occasional oil changes. Etc.
I would suggest that you start signing up for companies ,even if you are not ready to start shopping yet, so that you can get a good feel for what is and is not out there.
Hard work builds character and homework is good for your soul.
