Avid Yelper, intrigued by MS'ing

I love posting yelp reviews to help people find hole in the walls, if the food is good quality, price level justifiable for the experience, appearances of the place, and demeanor of employees. I now realize, I have been an unpaid mystery shopper all this time.

I'm a yelper too. However, we can not review places that we are hired to shop. It has been terribly hard for me to not leave a negative review at some of the restaurants I have dined at while mystery shopping.

MS is all about objective reporting and NOT about opinion, unless the guidelines specifically (and rarely) ask for that. And, yes, you cannot do reviews of any place where you do an MS report.

You have actually not been an unpaid mystery shopper, not by a long shot. You probably have better observational skills than many which will give you a leg up with mystery shopping.

Keep in mind that are you not going to be evaluating hole in the wall type places, often, either, it's mostly chains. Writing shop reports is going to be different since you won't be using any flowery adjectives and will just be writing basic sentences and in an objective manner. But you might as well start getting paid to write your observations! There is a link below to a list of companies and another link for new shoppers. Those are good places to start

One thing that's nice is that you can use your Yelp reviews when applying with MSCs. I got a Travel+Leisure top hotel shop based on my TA review of another property in the chain.

You cannot post any information from your mystery shopping jobs to any of your media accounts. Also, the guidelines/instructions state that if you must do A, B, C, and D, then do A, B, C, and D. Do not think if you just slide to do A, B, and D, you should be paid. It doesn't work that way.
