First time shopper fishing for useful info

Hi everyone!

I've just registered today. I'd like to learn more about this "Mystery Shopper" thing and, eventually, if I like what I read, become a new member of this community.

I live in London, UK, at the moment. I've got some spare time and would like to use it wisely winking smiley. I do not know if this forum deals only with shoppers in the USA or if it also has members from other parts of the world.

Maybe those of you who are experienced shoppers can tell me more about how to make a good start and avoid the usual traps and scams (which are, apprently, very common in this business, according to Kim's message).

I look forward to hearing from you guys soon.

Don't EVER EVER EVER pay anyone to let you shop. They are supposed to pay YOU not the other way around. There are a few companies out there that want you to pay them so you can be a "rated shopper". This is bull twaddle. You sign up with every legit company known to mankind---the list is elsewhere on this board. You check jobs boards daily and bear in mind that a company that has a lot of shops in one area doesn't necessarily have a lot of shops in another location. You don't get discouraged and keep plugging away at it. I've been a shopper for 16 years now and find that shops with no purchase are to my liking, this way you don't front a lot of money. Banks and service providers are in this category and only need a business card as proof of the shop.

I agree with Dee. Read everything you can get your hands on, this board is a fount of useful information. Good luck.

One little tip to help you make more money on your assignments: Try to group your assignments together. If you see a job you like or think you will apply for on street A (for example), look thru the other jobs with that company and also with the other companies you are registered with and see if you can find another job or two near that same street. If you can get 2-3 jobs in the same day in the same area - you will find you will end up making more money. You save gas, you only have to get dressed and go out one time, you are making good use of your time - so try to make good use of it! Also by grouping several jobs together - you can afford to take a low paying job along with a couple of good paying jobs. This gives you the opportunity to get acquainted with more companies AND you will probably get a free lunch if you choose your jobs wisely.

good luck
