Where do I start? I am looking for mystery shopping in the Wisconsin area. I have a letter of intent waiting to email, but who do I email it to?? Help!
Letter of intent? Nope, not needed. You need to complete the application to work as an Independent Contractor with some companies to get accepted and get started. Let me suggest you read through the New Mystery Shopper section of this forum to see what this is about and how to get started.
Thanks Flash for your information. I did sign up for 3 companies and have completed 2 shops in two days! You helped me to stop spinning in circles!
I do have to say it is not as easy as we might think...But it is another way to make some extra money in this economy. The first shop I was really nervous but the second shop went much better. I look forward to a future in this but I'm not giving up my day job yet!

No, I would not advise this as a replacement for a day job. There just isn't enough work in most markets and the fees are neither adequate nor reliable enough to make a livelihood of it. But for extras it can work nicely. Generally it works best if you have a specific goal you are working towards. One gal I know is using it to pay off student loans, others use it to save for vacations, I use it to pay my health insurance as I am an early retiree, while still others use it to help subsidize the household. A goal makes it a little more palatable when you get a just awful job or really truly do not want to write that report.
My goal is to be able to help pay my car loan & second is a long deserved trip down the road. I'm a widow my kids are in their 20's and this is great for me to do with my very flexible schedule. I am proceeding very slowly though and taking my time to read everything before I agree to do a shop. I went on jobslinger last night and there are some shops in my area that sound interesting. I have to sign up and pay before I can be a shopper on that sight? Is that something that is normal to have to do? It's not much but I am leery when asked for money on sites.
There are two versions of Jobslinger. Jobslinger.com is a free site. JobslingerPlus is a pay site with a free trial option for a month (?). I would just take the free site at this point. One shopper has mentioned that the free trial was useful for finding new-to-her companies to sign up with, but I would save that free trial for later once you are already signed up and working. And as for paying anybody for anything to shop, I have never found that necessary and find it the lowest form of pickpocketry. Shoppers are already very poorly paid. Jobs that pay more require a whole lot more so it still comes out to poorly paid. Paying for the 'privilege' via ANY form--memberships, certifications, books, referral services--falls into the realm of scams in my opinion.
I agree with you 100% - Thank you for explaining the Jobslinger.com I will go with the free site.

There's a list of legitimate companies here. Also, check Jobslinger for MSPs who have work in the area you live. Research any company you're unsure of, as well as using the "Search" feature here.

Also, with Jobslinger, once you have accepted the free trial you cannot go back "down" to the free level...at least that is what they told me. So either be ready for that or have a second email handy.
That is a new on one me, Hope16. I believe several shoppers did the free trial and then stopped it. They are using Jobslinger still in the free version to the best of my knowledge.
That was my experience. After the free trial with JobSlinger Plus, I reverted easily to JobSlinger.
Hello everyone,

I'm new as well! I've just signed up here a few minutes ago to find out more about mystery shopping and the best websites to register. The lists provided in "Mystery Shopping Company Discussion" are very helpful!
