So excited! But so many questions! : )

Hi,

I'm Amy and I'm totally new to this. I just applied today with Sentry and am wondering what the time frame is like to get a response. I know that sometimes these processes can drag out a bit. So any info from anyone on how I can get my foot in the door or any other tips would be very helpful. Thanks smiling smiley

Welcome to the forum, Amy. The New Mystery Shopper area of the forum will answer lots of your questions I suspect. As for registering, let me suggest that you register with a number of companies. Ones that have shops in virtually every area of the country include Market Force and Bare International.

You can use the Search feature of the forum for information about specific companies and I would strongly encourage you to do so as not all companies are equal in how they treat shoppers.
Thank you very much for the info. I just went through the process at MSC only to find that they do not offer shops in any area I travel to. Oh well, try try again.
Hi Amy,

That will happen a lot. That's why you need to sign up with many companies. It's always exciting when you get one that actually has shops near you. Also, as many on the Forum have said, clients move from company to company, so some day they may have shops in your area. Keep signing up, and good luck!

Amy, go to jobslinger.com and search for jobs in your area. The listings are often old/already filled - but at least this will give you a good idea of which companies offere shops in your area. Then, go and apply with each of those companies, and sign up to have jobs emailed or texted to you.

Welcome to the forum, Synitra. We are a group of mystery shoppers. We have no jobs and no one will be able to get back to you with a job. Check out New Mystery Shopper area for how-rod to learn about mystery shopping. The jobs are posted by companies you register with.
Welcome Arachel411 and Synitra.

Synitra, as I think Arachel is finding out, this is anything BUT fast money. It is very slow money winking smiley

You'll need to just keep signing up for all the MSCs you see. It is extremely time consuming, but there is no way around it. There are a couple of short cuts, however.

1. Use an auto form filler like RoboForm. I used to use that, but now a form filler is included with my Norton software, and I use that (Identity Safe). You fill out all the fields in an MSC's application and save it. It will automatically fill in the same spaces on all your following applications.

2. Most companies will want a sample of your writing. Write out your sample in Word or whatever you have. Spell check it, grammar check it, read it, re-read it, have someone else read it, proof it, spell check it again. (Get my drift?) Make sure it is perfect. All you have to do from then on is cut/ paste it into each application instead of writing a new sample over and over again. You can always tweak your sample for individual companies.

3. You have to sign an independent contractor agreement for each MSC. Don't just click the button that you read it - actually read it. It's that important.

4.. Don't be afraid to ask for help in this forum. Just don't ask anyone to tell you which company has "XYZ" shops. We're not permitted to answer.

I started doing shops last month. Have done 30 or so shop now and have only been paid for seven of them so far. They were the ones that I did the first week in August. Come to find out that I just squeezed in before they went to paying on the 15th of the months for the previous 15th of the month window. Two of the shops I have done will not pay till November or December. So fast money this ain't. It just takes awhile to get it rolling in, then it is fairly easy money till the tax man cometh

It is anything but easy money.

Plan the work. Work the plan.
No way that it's fast money! Lol. I think that it's just a fun way to make a couple extra bucks and help with the cost of eating at all my favorite places or other shopping. However ... the tax man is the thing that my husband wants me to focus on before I get too crazy with all this. Can someone recommend a SIMPLIFIED read on the rules and such for taxes for independant contractors??

Thanks
There's a very good instruction on taxes in the New Member area. It's on of the posts at the top, marked sticky.

Considering the name of the board, is a gripe all that surprising? The complaint also doesn't make sense or ring true. If an issue was detected with direct deposit, why wouldn't the author have contacted them right away to rectify the situation? I've never heard of Bare sending individual payments. All shops for a given month are lumped together into one payment. I suppose if the person's payment would have been delayed while straightening out the DD problem, they would have complained just as loudly. And as far as I'm concerned, it is for the protection of our information that it is all not displayed.
