Thanks for all your help girls...

Back to work tomorrow... I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Joan I think I'm going to wait and see if my first two shops are excepted before I drive around burning gas. What do you think?

Hi Sneakers,

I'm just trying to learn as much about this business as I possibly can. If everyone shares their experiences we can all avoid pitfalls I hope.

For the Feedback + shop, I think the only way you'll know is when you get your Pay Pal notification of payment. And that could be awhile. With alot of companies, no news is good news. That is, if there is a problem, you'll hear from them. Otherwise, you just get the payment email.

Yeah, an email on it came out this morning and I guess someone took it early. They're posted at least on a monthly basis. The rotation is 90 days per location, so keep checking the site for new ones. I know I've seen one in Chino also.

Well, my first shop was a no go. The target shop was not at the location for the two days I was suppose to make contact. Hum...Also, not knowing some of the names involved in these shops, I misread thinking the target name belonged to the scheduling company. There was no punctuation after the name and the scheduling company. (My mistake) It was not clear. Oh well, chalk one up to the learning curve. One was done well out of two. I don't like failure. It's not in my fiber.

When I saw the msp you had listed, I was really hoping that you hadn't tried an apartment shop as a first shop. Targeted apartment shops provide some of the biggest agravations in MSing. I've heard too many horror stories about them to even attempt one. But, as you said, it was a learning experience. I'd leave those alone for awhile-too many variables that can sink your shop. I know it's tough when a shop goes bad, but we've all had it happen. You end up feeling like you've let yourself and your scheduler down. I really does get easier. From your post, it sounds like the feedback+ shop went well. If you're not with them already, sign up with CoRI [www.mysteryshops.com] don't pay very well but, if you wait til the end of the month, their shops are always bonused, and they have lots of jobs in your area.

Thank you Joan,

You made me feel so much better. I didn't know what to do when the target isn't there for two days and the work is due. What do you do...Cancel it?

Just so I know..

I've not done any apt. shops. Best to check up front about it with the scheduler before you even start calling the place. Apparently, it's a VERY common problem. I've also heard of issues with the target not being there when you show up, even with the appointment. For awhile, you might want to move on to shops that are more in your comfort zone. Get your feet wet with CoRI. Easy pool store shops in Chino and Chino Hills for June. Lousy pay, but they will build your confidence back up.

I'll let you know if I see anything else in your area that would be good for a newbie.

If you plan to continue working for the company you stay in touch with them letting them know the current status and the problems you are facing. I understand that these folks are not sympathetic, though it is not sympathy you seek but guidance. I managed today to finally hook up with a guy I was supposed to do a business verification with by 5/25. On the 24th I was emailing the scheduler current status--# calls made, #messages left on the answering machine, etc. On the 25th when he returned a call from out of town, I sent my scheduler a recap of that conversation. The scheduler just asked that I keep her posted and today I did and was able to tell her the job was finished. It has been a pleasant, business-like interaction because she knows I can't do my job if the guy isn't even around.
Thanks for advise on removing email address - attracting spammers. So will cancel that email address. But do I need to remove the posting dated May 24th? If so how do I get that posting off the message board?

Which brings me to another question. When do you use your email address?

You can return to a post and in the menu bar at the bottom of the post you should see an edit button to be able to change the post.

Your shopper email address gets used for your Paypal account and for your signups with shopping companies. As long as you only do that the account should stay clear of spam and junk mail. I made the mistake of using my shopper email in correspondence with other shoppers and a couple forward me and the rest of their address book "cute" or "inspirational" things they have been emailed, with the addresses of all recipients showing. When someone else forwards that along there is the danger of some future recipient spamming every recipient on the list because they are all "live" emails and then making a buck by selling the list of addresses to other spammers. My shopper email now gets 8-10 junk mails a day.
