Re: New Forum section for beginning shoppers...

I need some info, please. There is an ad in the local paper for mystery shoppers. I called, talked to a guy, and he said that their program is usually 69.00, but he would only charge me 20.00 to help me get started. He gave me their web site: www.proshoppersonline.com I went there and it is about mystery shopping. They don't tell you much. They have their 800 number listed so you have to call to sign up. Does anyone know anything about this company or anyone that has had dealings with them? Just curious. Thanks Jenny

Run, don't walk, away from that one. I promise you that everything you need to know about mystery shopping that is general in nature is discussed here or on MSFreedom.org and anything you need to know about a specific job is in the instructions you get when you accept the job. You do NOT need to pay anyone a cent to shop. Read the threads stickied to the top of this New Shopper area and ask questions that come up. Any of us could put up a website and get a toll free number to suck away your money, but we would much rather help you help yourself by providing as much general information as possible. All we are asking is that you read, think about it and then ask questions about anything you can't quite figure out.
I've found that one way to find the authenticity of a program is to go to the link and other links will tell you it's a scam. They'll promise you they're the real deal and when you go and try to find if they're a scam you find out they're one too and then the guy who investigated it tells you he's the real deal, ad nauseum. I ultimately found out about this forum from a guy who told me don't fall for the cardinal rule, you don't need to invest money in order to mystery shop.
Proshoppers was already mentioned on a previous thread as a scam, Jenny. You can start with the MSPA (mspa.org) companies, which are all legit. That's how most of us started. Actually I started with Google, which sent me to the Federal Trade Commission site (ftc.gov), which explained the difference to me and recommended the MSPA site. So we've done the legwork for you. : )
