Still really green!

I should have known when I woke up and it was pouring - it was an omen. It never really rains here and of course I had a route of 7 shops planned.
I got the first one done - OK on to #2. I'm still new enough that I'm just a little nervous on all my new experiences. These were convenience store shops and I was on a roll...until I shut my car door and realized - yup!- keys were in the car. Of course I had an extra set - they were in my purse - in the car! So I head inside and the wonderful person inside listened to my tale of woe and let me use the phone. Called my husband and of course he doesn't answer an "unkown" number (who does these days?) So I left him a message and waited. And waited...tried him again still no answer. So I had no choice but to call a locksmith. $65 to open a car door - I guess they charge for stupidity - I tried my husband again. He finally answers and agrees to come out in the pouring rain & drive the 20+ miles it will take to deliver me a key (what a guy!)
So I got to really evaluate that store from top to bottom so to speak. I was there for quite a while waiting for my white knight. Got to know the cashier really well. I was just really happy to have found the shop in excellent condition, I don't' think I could have written her up for anything bad. On to my next stop - keys, check! getting out of the car I somehow set off the car alarm! I really wanted to go home an put my jammies on with a hot cuppa tea! The route was about a 65 mile round trip with all the wrong turns etc. The last one I had to find in the dark - why can't businesses put bigger numbers on their buildings? The only silver lining I had was driving home and seeing all the Christmas lights driving in places I hadn't been before. Lifted my spirits and got me in the mood for the holiday party I was heading to in an hour!
Just had to share - I know some of you can relate

Damselfly, that's some story to put in your arsenal. (Yes, we all have them!) Glad it was a happy ending!
When my sweetie got to come rescue me 2X in 12 months because both purse and keys were locked in the car I got a spare made that only opens the door. The hole was enlarged and it is behind my license tag on the screw that holds the tag in place (I've lost a few of those little magnetic key holders already). Now that the key is there I have never since locked myself out of the car.
A memorable day in the field, Damselfly!

I only locked my keys inside the car once. I was a thousand miles away from any one I knew. I called the police. They have this gadget. . . The officer was unbelievably nice and understanding. He wouldn't even hear of me buying him a burger for the trouble.
Come to think of it, I wasn't married then.

As I was waiting that afternoon for my rescue, looking at my car sitting there in the rain, I remembered reading about the key behind the license plate idea and thought I should have done it long before now!
Please send me an email in about a month and ask me if I have done it yet?

Something to consider:
Both my wife and myself have remotes for our cars which lock and open our car doors as well as the panic button and trunk release. We were both given two remotes when we purchased our cars. I remember reading an article about using a cell phone to open the car doors and we decided one day to try it, and to our amazement; it worked.

My wife drove to the supermarket about 8 miles away and parked and locked her car. She then called me on her cell phone. I took her duplicate remote and held it close to the voice piece of my cell while she held her cell about a foot away from her car. I pressed the open button and it did indeed open her car doors.

I have no idea if this works on all cars or even if distance matters, but it certainly is worth a shot, or at lease something to keep in mind.
Now there is a thought. Of course my keys are primitive enough that they have a chip in them but no remote functions. Our newer vehicle does have the remote to open/lock/flip the trunk etc.
But.. If my purse was locked in the car, so would my cell phone be. It is in my purse.
My little Nissan has a smart key. It won't allow the less smart to lock the car key inside.

I knew there would be a lesson to all this - I just need a car with newer technology!smiling smiley
Sounds like one of my adventures in the making. At least there were no goats involved.

Maybe if there were a goat in the car they might have opened the door for me.

My army is well trained. They would have opened the door for you as well as seranaded you on their flugle horns.
