Have you considered doing some phone shops so you don't have to leave the house?

Absolutely! I don't front money to anyone in any other part of my life, especially my sister, except a contractor and even then I prefer to buy the materials myself so I have the receipt AND the product in case they bag on the job I have recourse.

If a MSC is behind on payments to me I have no issue at all with simply thanking them for calling but mentioning that I will not be accepting further shops until past due payments are cleared up. If I feel I am already too far out of pocket with a company with slow payment I simply decline jobs due to my schedule until that situation clears up.

I'm with you there. I have one company in particular that takes 60-90 days every time. They always pay, but the 30 days after the end of the month you shopped in with an additional 20 working business days lingo is frustrating

especially when you're owed several shops and they want you to pick up another that requires a purchase.

My 'shop kitty' doesn't make a particular expenditure prohibitive but rather my sense of preservation says that I don't want a company that is slow or sloppy about paying me to owe me very much at any time. So I have no issue with some companies owing me more than $1000 and still taking jobs with them, but a sloppy company that does not follow our contract for payment will get cut off at about $100 due me.

Are there some bank or any other type of shops in your neighborhood to do so you do not have to drive very far or to walk to? From time to time, some MSC have web inquiries for shops.
