Is secretshopper.com a scam?

It was one of the first websites to come up when I searched. They asked for my SSN and I gave it to them, but I've seen a few people online say that it's a scam or that they never got paid. I'm really scared now.

It's on the "Official List" under "All Companies In Our Database," but only has 7 reviews...

Please let me know if you've done any work for them and how that was! Thanks.

Definitely not a scam. The list contains only valid companies. You should be safe with any that are there.
Definitely not a scam. I have not done any jobs for them in a couple of years and their list of clients in my area is very limited. I have always been paid what and when promised for acceptable work. Realize that when a shopper does NOT follow instructions the shop is subject to not being accepted so no payment or reimbursement will be forthcoming. It is sort of the same principle as if you called a plumber to change your kitchen faucet, would you pay them if they only hooked up the cold water? I guess that would give him the right to accuse you of scamming him?
I love working for them and have many times. I take all shops they offer in my area. Unfortunately, they haven't had much lately in my area. I check their website daily, if not twice daily.

Sometimes the fewer comments made on the forum about a company means fewer problems. Unhappy people tend to talk and post more than happy people. I have worked for SecretShopper and they are legit and I have always been paid. It is pretty standard for a mystery shopping company to ask for your SSN. They need that information to report your earnings.

You are right to be careful. There are scammers who use the names of legitimate shopping companies. I have seen scams using the SecretShopper name but it was not the legitimate company. Be careful and do not provide any personal information through e-mails, only on their secure website.
I noticed also that there were many similar sounding companies...

secret shopper
i secret shopper
i secret shop

I'm being really careful to only sign up for the companies listed on the bottom of this forum. I also agree with Jay....people in general tend to write about stuff they want to complain about. It's the same reason you have to take Tripadvisor with a grain of salt, IMHO.

It's up to me to make me happy.
