Hotel Loyalty Programs

Hello!
I am new here and have enjoyed reading the topics. It is very informative!
I do have a question that I did not see come up previously. I have started evaluating hotels. Do you find it is ok to use your guest loyalty programs to gain points for your stay? One company did advise that it could be used but only provide the loyalty number when checking out. I am hoping to get some advice on whether using the loyalty programs is something other shoppers do.
Thanks!

Many shoppers do accumulate the loyalty points both for improved perks and reward nights to use for personal trips or when they are doing extended routes of shops. Several things to think about:

Some hotels when they back out the guest charges also back out the points from your loyalty account. This depends on the brand and location.

Some guidelines may instruct you as to whether or not you can use your loyalty card, so read carefully.
By all means use the loyalty card to the fullest, consistant with the individual shop guiselines. Those rewards points are your main pay for hotel shops!

I agree with Wales. A lot of the companies pay poorly and the value of the points can be close to or more than the value of the shop. Beware, though. Some shops that refund your credit card also back out your points. Ask the scheduler before taking the job.

I've never done a shop where I wasn't allowed to get my points. I have done some where they preferred that I only add the number while checking out (no problem.) I've actually done a few where the client specifically wanted a shopper with elite status in their rewards program. I have never had the points disappear on a shop where the charges are reversed. I don't get the credit card points, but the points for the stay remain. This has been consistent across Hyatt, Hilton, SPG, and Marriott properties.
I'm also new to hotel evaluations. What if any tips do you have for completing reports so they will be of high quality and will be accepted?
