Liability Insurance as required in ICA

I noticed in my ICA that it states you are required to have public and personal liability insurance. Does anyone actually get this insurance and is it really necessary just for mystery shopping?

It may also be referring to a personal liability coverage. Because I may have others in my car when I am on a business assignment, I" heavied up " my auto policy liability coverage and added a separate personal liability policy. That also greatly increases my coverage in case a neighbor of a housemate trips and fall off my front porch. For anyone running a small business a personal liability policy should be an expected cost of doing business.

I have both of those policies in my home and auto. I don't understand what could I need insurance for just to watch someone in a store?
You may want to talk to an insurance agent about that. In addition, you may want to look at the liability limits on those existing policies and consider raising them. I can think of many instances where I could need personal liability coverage that is not included in my home or auto policy. But, then, my father was a successful insurance agent and had many horror stories to tell.

I'd suggest also looking at your personal Liability policy (or talking to your agent) and make sure that anything done in the course of your business isn't excluded as a commercial endeavor for which you'd need a commercial policy. Policies vary by state and company of course, so just check yours out so that you know if your policy plays nice with doing independent contractor work.

I have had that conversation years ago because I first got the personal liability policy for when I was both selling real estate and managing rental properties. Thank you for mentioning this, since coverage for small business activities does, indeed, vary by state.
