Starla,
Almost all dining and retail shops from legitimate MCSs involve paying for a purchase and then being fully, or partially reimbursed. That is why it is essential to check out the references of the MSCs on this and other forums before accepting work.

And to add to this, no legitimate MSC will ever send you offers for these types of shops unless you have *entered yourself into their database.* They do not send solicitations to strangers offering free shopping and dining (only scammers do that.)

Unlike what the scammers advertise, there is no free ride here: you work for this money. You will put up your own cash on purchase and reimbursement shops, and depending on the company and their ICA, may not be repaid until anywhere from two weeks to 90 days. These legitimate companies are the ones that make you pay up front and reimburse you IF your report was acceptable. If not, you will not be reimbursed.

I'm not sure if I am misunderstanding the OP, but all shops I have ever encountered have you pay now and they reimburse you later.
I've done lots of dine on us type shops. I would spend over a hundred dollars for a night out and then they'd reimburse me. It's a free (and good) meal, so why not? Obviously you want to make sure the company is legit first, but I highly recommend these types of shops if you like eating out.
And writing extensive narrative in return. :-)

My main reason for doing this, is to eat out. I wouldn't be able to otherwise. I've enjoyed many great dinners and fun lunch's. Certainly worth the report...they used to pay a fee for the report, that's a thing of the past with many restaurant companies, but the free meal for two is worth it!!

Signing up with legitimate companies, following instructions and using capitalization, punctuation and good grammar in your shop narratives for these types of assignments will ensure that you are reimbursed.
Wow, new poster, insults other posters. Geez. Why not come in like a lamb?

My post was not an insult. It would be sad to hear it from an editor and then not be reimbursed. I know when I started out a $35 or $50 hit would have been absolutely devastating.
Yes, okay. I agree. But, your post *sounded* insulting for a new poster. I am sorry if I misread it, but starting out commenting on other people's grammar seems that way to me, especially when yours is unknown here.

Some companies pay you back the exact amount that you paid based on the receipt. Other companies have a standard amount to pay you back no matter what you spend.
I haven't shopped for any companies who have been willing to reimburse no matter how much I spend. So far they have all asked for a receipt and reimburse based on the receipt. So far also they have all named a spending limit. Am I missing out on some really big spender companies?
Is Experienced perhaps referring to the "Fixed Fee" shops? I do a number of gas stations that pay a flat fee of $15. I am required to purchase "at least" $3 in gas and some inside purchase for the receipt. There is no additional reimbursement for this shop, it comes out of the $15 flat fee. Other shops, of course pay fee + reimbursement so if I need to spend $9.73, that is what I am reimbursed with the maximum reimbursement being $10. If I spend more than $10 it is out of my pocket.
I thought that, too, Flash. Fixed fee.
