Are there shop categories for MSP's?

In other words, in the list of member companies, can they be categorized as "grocery" or "high end retail" or "financial'? And if so, where is this list?

There is not such a list that I know of. On Volition.com they do have a list of companies and the types of shops they tend to do, though I haven't checked their list in many years to even see if it is still there. I think you can see the list without going through the whole registration hassle (and that used to be a big hassle but I don't know how it is now).

Truth of the matter is that the major companies that go across a number of markets tend to have a variety of clients. A company I used to do car wash jobs now has restaurants, an company that used to do primarily gas stations now has a lot of time shares, a company that used to do a whole lot of financial now does a whole lot of shipping shops, etc. etc. So unless a list has been carefully updated, chances are it is no longer reflective of what the company does.

If you want to make the inevitable research needed for such info a bit easier, you might want to use the "search" function" on these forums. To narrow the results to recent clients, I would try, for instance, "bank" and "within 12 months" or whatever the reasonable time period seems to be. Yes, you will get some useless hits, like stories of crazy things that happened at a bank," but you will almost certainly turn up some MSC names to match shop types. If you use the wonderful Excel spreadsheet from the New Mystery Shoppers area of the forums, just add a column to note the types of shops for each MSC on your list.
