Audio Recording

Am about to go out on my first mystery shop and I need to record the pre-call and they suggest I record when I interact w/ the waitstaff to help in taking notes. Couple of questions: 1) can I assume if I am being asked to record, it is legal to do so?; 2) how do you manage to record the waitress without her noticing you are doing it - you won't necessarily know when he/she is coming - do you keep it on and place in your purse?; and 3) any suggestions for good apps for the iPhone? Thanks ... appreciate the help!

Your iPhone has a built in recorder that is quite good. Just be sure you put the phone in airplane mode because an incoming phone call will shut it off.

If you use the search function for audio recordings and choose all dates there are some long threads with quite a bit of information on the legality. You will also find a link to a good website for checking your state.

Never assume anything in this business. Make sure you are allowed to do that (per Lisa's post)
Please check the "sticky" topic near the top of this page for a discussion that addresses legal audio recording.
