What to do when you make a big mistake

Let's say that you get flustered and mess up a scenario. You don't realize until you get home that the instructions said in HUGE RED LETTERS that you were not to do the thing you did. Okay, what then?

You go ahead and report the shop, of course. Do you do anything else in the way of apology, like e-mailing the contact, or do you just grit your teeth and see what happens?

Ishmael, I've messed up more than once but here's how I handled it one time. I emailed the MSC and said I had done the shop but I failed to execute the guidelines, I would not be making a report, and I wanted to reshop. They gave me another date no questions asked, I took another run at it, and we all lived happily.

Mary was right on. "Fess up; offer a way to make it right; don't file the report with the roor in it unless your contact says (in writing) to do so.

Everyone who has done a lot of shops has made every mistake in the book and a few new ones! I just try not to make excuses when I screw up.

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
It all worked out, just the way you advised. Thank you! I've also made a few mental notes for future reference, like: "From now on , don't do two shops that you've never done before, of the same general type, but for different MSCs, on the same day!"

I got lucky when I did a shop of the same type with a new MSC (pizza photo shops). The first time, the shops were actually easier than the ones I was used to, and the second time fewer photos were required, they were easier to upload, and I got paid about twice what I would get from the other MSC (same pizza chain).

But in general, no, I would not do what you did. There's a reason one of the gargantuan MSCs has a limit of 4 of their shops, per day, as it is easy enough in that case to mix up info between shops. I only shop for two or more MSCs in a day when I am doing either vastly different shop types or I am extra careful to take good notes between shops so I don't mix up info.
