I don't understand your question. Are you a mystery shopper or do you represent a mystery shopping company?
I'm confused too. Are you wanting to know why we became shoppers or what companies should look for when hiring shoppers? Two completely different things.
I became a shopper because I wanted to be a stay-at-home Mom who could tailor her work schedule around the kids' school schedules. I see that the first post isn't asking that, but the link to this thread did.
I find it humorous that people post on this sight and think they are going to get away with a MYSTERY question. HELLO! Umm! Whats the name of this forum?
Perhaps the question should be reversed? What should shoppers look for in a Mystery Shopping Company? Helpful schedulers, sane scenarios, logical reports, full details of assignments before accepting, fair wage and quick payment, fair and impartial editors, rapid response to questions.
It *is* two completely different questions. One in the subject line, one in the post. Maybe they meant to ask both, and just put one in each place?

Hmmm. It would be nice to know the motivation behind the question. smiling smiley

Thank for you candid and direct feedback on the subject vs. the post.

What I was looking for is what makes you good at your job. If you owned a company and were looking to hire some Mystery shoppers what would you be looking for in candidates? I am trying to get a feel as to what differentiates an average shopper from a great shopper. No hidden agenda just wanted to better understand what is the motivation behind going into this industry and how that directly correlates to you being exceptional at your job. What drives you to become a great mystery shopper?

Please share your thoughts.

Bestshopper,
Just read the forums, especially the first 7 topics on this New Mystery Shoppers forum and all will be clear. If you are hiring MSers for a company but do not know what makes a good Mystery Shopper, you may just be in the wrong business.

Walesmaven,

Thank you for your assistance. I was inquiring about what makes a great shopper from the very people that complete the tasks daily. I have my own idea about the qualities that I am looking for in a shopper but, welcomed the opinion of the others.

Again appreciate the direct feedback.
From your standpoint is there really going to be a big difference between what would make a good mystery shopper and what would make a good employee in general? Those of us that operate as successful Independent Contractors need some skills and motivation not as necessary for an employee. Meanwhile, some more specific skills could be dependent on your company, the scope of your mystery shops and the level of detail you desire.

If your company is paying an hourly wage and expenses, it would also be a safe guess the company will have solid expectations for how many assignments will be completed and how many miles will be traveled. We ICs usually make those determinations for ourselves and thrive on the flexibility. You may need people who function better with more structure.
