My first rejected shop sad smiley

Bummer. I had my first rejected shop! I know it is my own fault. I realized, when I started filling out the report that I forgot to play dumb when the cashier asked me if I wished to use the loyalty. I wrote in my report that I forgot to say I didn't have it. The rest of my report was very thorough. UGGG! Lesson learned. I should have known better.. you always play dumb when it comes to the rewards! At least I am only out a couple bucks on something I would have bought anyway.

We've all been there, phlutter! Kudos on accepting responsibility and looking at it as a learning experience.
lol. Well, they said I could re-do the shop (they needed it completed quickly).. It had already been bonused... I redid it, but felt really weird about it. Especially since the same worker was there (even though I spoke to the other employee).. I know she knew... I go in, wander around the bakery and ask about how many people the cake serves 2 days after going in and asking a question about a cake.... LOL.. I am sure the girl that was there two nights ago told the girl that helped me because she did everything she was supposed to! HA HA! She seemed to go along with it well.. hopefully they don't out me.
I had a shop rejected the other day too. The instructions said to interact with an associate. There was a man building a display and doing some other work. He was wearing a black polo shirt and black pants like the other associates were wearing. The only difference was that he did not have a red "streak" on his shirt.

He came up to me and asked if he could help so we went through the whole scenario of looking for pet treats and toys. At the end of our discussion, he mentioned that he was the district manager of the chain. Who knew???

Since I couldn't really go up to another associate and ask the same question, I ended the shop and submitted the report. The MSC rejected it because I did not talk to an associate. He acted like he worked there, talked like he worked there, dressed like he worked there, was doing work other than a rep would do so I knew he wasn't one of those, and so on.

Any comments?
I'd be disappointed. I'm pretty sure sometimes I've evaluated the manager at various shops. I don't see how I could ask to speak to someone else????

What did the MSC tell you, you should have done?
I never got a reply from them when I answered their e-mail saying the shop was rejected. Since the person was wearing the black outfit and was working there, I don't know how I could have done anything differently. It would be nice to have some sort of reply saying what should have been done.

I have sent them 2 e-mails so far. Guess I will have to try to phone them at some point.

So far, I have done 14 shops for this company and have a 98% rating.

BUMMER! Man! I don't know what I would have done after that either. That sucks! Let us know what they say you should have done.. I am very curious.

Seriously, the MSC needs to tell you what you could have done differently to not get rejected. About the only thing I can think to do is after ending the shop, call or email the scheduler or help desk and explain the situation before reporting the shop.

Don't name the client yet so you can name the MSC later and not accidentally violate the ICA and forum rules. I'm sure I'm not the only one that wants to know what MSC flagrantly ignores valid shopper inquiries like yours.

Regarding your rejected shop, it seems that you followed the instructions as best you could and they added a requirement after the fact. If true, that is wrong. I suggest you do two things; Follow up with the MSC to demand payment and name the MSC in the forum. The later will tell other shoppers what we need to know about that MSC and also allow other shoppers to give you advice on how to ask for your money. (It's possible one of us can supply a name and email of someone who can change this result for you)

Good luck

I would have been upset.. both in OP's situation but more so with what nslowry shared. Learning experience I guess?

My rejected shop that resulted in this thread has apparently left me unable to self-assign with that particular shop company. They had a ton of shops post up and I tried to assign one.. it uses Sassie and it kept saying somethign like, "unavailable to schedule" or something like that. So I messaged them and asked if I was unable to schedule because of that failed shop. They never answered my question, but asked what shops I wanted and gave me 3 of them to do. I had only done one shop with them prior to my blunder and then I redid the one. I am assuming my score is too low to self assign, but this company doesn't show your score or tell you a score after the assignment (how frustrating). Maybe my rating will go up after performing these next three! I hate to have to email and beg everytime for a shop!

nslowry, I hope you find out more about your fail. That is a tough one. Did it say anywhere in the paperwork the employees must have that streak on their shirt? I just don't know how you would have known otherwise.
Sadly, there isn't always a "right way" to do these things with scenarios that don't fit the guidelines. However, there are things you learn with experience.

One of my first shops with a new MSC, I asked what do I do if the target is no longer working there. My scheduler said it doesn't happen but if so to notify her. Guess what....first shop, first call....target is no longer working there! That shop was on hold.

Now you know with experience that if the guidelines to shop for an employee and you see in the questionaire that it asks if there was a manager, that should prompt you to ask your scheduler questions. What happens if the only employee IS a manager? Or owner? I typically ask how important is the target/position versus just getting anyone at the store.

Schedulers are/have been shoppers so they have heard/seen it all. Never hurts to ask the second time around. Just press on....new shops and new MSCs. Too many opportunities to waste time over one bad incident.
Lattegirl made a very important point. Unless you read the survey cafefully before you do the shop visit, you are not prepared for the shop. We often hear posters say that there were questions on the survey that were not covered in the instructioins, so they hadn't made the observations or done the activities necessary to answering those questions. HUH??? That always makes me wonder why they had not looked at the survey before setting out to do the visit! Not saying that's the case here, but I did want to emphasize Latte's excellent advice.

Bummer. I dread the day that happens to me. nslowry, I'm interested to hear if they respond too. I'm not sure what you could have done differently. I did a shop today where I could not get a card and I am crossing my fingers it's not rejected. I had two people flat out refuse and I didn't have any other nice way to ask.
Wow that is a bummer kissum. It is grounds to get rejected no matter what as it's a requirement. Did you notify your scheduler asap?

After the first one refused, I would've contacted my scheduler immediately. Anything that is a potential of nonpayment needs to be brought to their attention right away. Next time you run into an odd situation, let them know. They may offer some tips. Also, I wonder why people refused to give out their cards to you. Let your scheduler know exactly how the conversation went. The person may thought you were wasting their time (not that they knew you were a shopper otherwise they would've given one to you!).

A good question in leiu of asking for a card directly is to ask, "So how do I get a hold of you?"
Yes, I did contact the scheduler. I didn't ask directly for a card, I asked for contact info. I got a name and number written on a pricing sheet, and a photo of the store front. I'm hoping it's okay, but I had another shop right next door, so it won't be a total waste either way.
