Has anyone used Tax Act to file their business/personal taxes?

I have heard complaints about TaxACT, TurboTax, and other tax prep software. I live on the state line, where many live in one State and work in the other. Tax software is not clear on resident/non-resident status. Another issue I have heard, is when there's an issue with the software-filed return, a year, two or three after filing. Support is said to be non-existent, regardless of claims of guaranteed accuracy. Of course, this could also be the case of a preparer-paid return. Software is less expensive than a paid professional. With a professional, there is an office with a door that you can bang on, if needed. The IRS now requires preparers to be certified, yearly. However, the fee should not be the sole determinant. It's up to us to "shop" whichever preparation method we elect.

Just be cautious, and realize potential vulnerabilities.
H&R has a tax prep product called something like "Best Of Both". You still prepare your taxes yourself online, but then a tax expert looks it over. I would be interested to know if anyone else has tried this.

For those that use Turbo Tax -

There are at least two versions of Turbo Tax (Deluxe and Premier?) that incorporate Schedule C info. Is the more basic acceptable for someone whose only self-employment income is from MS' ing? What sets it apart from the more expensive / complex version?

Thanks!
