Tax refund when I paid nothing in?

I guess maybe I am just an idiot .... each time I follow through with the advice here in the forum and I do the turbo tax, I am being told that I have no income. therefore I have no refund...... being told that if I didnt pay taxes in.... then I get none back ..... this is starting to drive me up the wall .... I have all my records , I have my mileage log .... I did all this keep up all year long just so that when it came time to do my taxes and knowing that I wouldnt have any reported income from any companies because I didnt work over $600.00 that I would be able to do taxes. I was told that I have to go to H & R block and let them do this for me , is that what I have to do ???? I was really hoping that I could do this thru the turbo tax site and it be simple , quick and painless..... and that I wouldnt look like an idiot..... if anyone can help me out , please help me ....

If you paid nothing in, then you will get nothing back unless you are eligible for the various credits. If your shopping business had a net profit or you did other other work this year you may be eligible for EIC or the work credit. Does the on-line version you are using allow you to either use an approach where you fill in the form directly? What you are looking for is a Schedule C. My purchased version of TurboTax in the initial data asks as part of its list of questions whether I was self-employed during 2010. A 'yes' to that is enough to get the Schedule C questions started.
