Actually neither how they make their money is with the float of everyone's money sitting in their paypal accounts. Since they skirt banking laws by not being banks, but acting in a somewhat similar manner. As a user of Paypal, you should never incur costs unless you load money via Green Dot. Just link to your bank account and transfer money from your bank to Paypal. Takes 2-3 days but hey no costs and a Debit card to use. Its all good.
Actually, PayPal does charge. When the transaction involves a buyer and a seller (like eBay), the seller is required to pay the fee. When the transaction does not involve a purchase, either party can pay. For example, when a mystery shopping company pays a shopper, the company can pay the fee OR can require the shopper to pay it. Most MSCs pay the fee. Some charge the shopper, deducting the fee from the shopper payment.
Almost. If the payment is not considered commercial and the money sent was already in PayPal, then there is no charge. For instance, if an MSC sends me $10, there will be a charge to one of us. The sender can choose to pay it or have it taken out of the amount sent to me. In turn, if I own AustinMom $10 and send it via PayPal, using the $10 that's already there, and mark it as a payment between friends or family members, neither one of us are charged.

The great thing about PayPal is the debit card. I absolutely love PayPal and wish every MSC used it. My PayPal debit card gets 1% cash back. My regular debit card does not.

Dowdellnina, I can use my paypal debit card anywhere that accepts debit cards. It is pretty awesome. Sometimes I use my shop money to pay for things on a shop!

AustinMom, is PayPal openly deduct the money, or seller or buyer doesn't actually know that he is also paying to PayPal?

If you buy on eBay, the Seller pays the fee. The buyer is never charged, and, yes, the Seller knows there is a fee. If a company sends a payment to a mystery shopper, there is a fee. The company can either pay the fee themselves (which is what most companies do) or can subtract the fee from the money they send to the shopper. Several companies subtract the fee that PayPal charges if the shopper chooses to be paid by PayPal. CORI does this: for example, if you earn $10, they will pay you $9.70. But they also offer direct deposit and there is no fee.
I can't figure out a way to get the debit card without upgrading my account and paying a fee. Can someone who uses it explain how it works?
